PS2 ROCKS!!

I just got back from my buddies house. He was having laggy typing, and random key recognition. I pulled his USB keyboard, and dropped in a $2 PS2, it all works great now!;D

Yes it certainly does. 🙂

Why waste resources on USB when you have two PS2 ports? I have my keyboard hooked up to PS2 and my mouse came with a USB->PS2 converter that I use. 🙂

well i have a razer gaming mouse...they suggested the usb for better responce time i guess...but for a keyboard not sure it would make any real differance

but just out of curiousity...berfore you just switched to the ps2 did you check setup in the cmos and see is usb keyboard was enabled?

thought you were talking about the playstation 2, i was just about to post how you were a lucky bastard, well, guess i don't have to.

I thought this was Playstation 2 too 🙂. I'm only mildly satisfied with my unit (I think I like my Dreamcast better than my PS2), but can't wait for Gamecube. It's gonna rock.

BTW, I'm for using the PS/2 stuff too. I did order a USB grey keyboard for one of my machines though b/c I couldn't find a grety PS/2 keyboard (has to match the case of the machine I'm building).

Another quirk about using USB keyboards and Mice is that they may not be recognized under winME when you are installing a fresh copy of windows unless you install the drivers. That means that you can't even navigate around.

Well yea, I had that problem before, but I wasn't totally stuck.

Keyboard navigating is possible... I've had to do it for 3 days when my only mouse bummed out and was waiting for a replacement from MS. It just takes much, much longer and requires tons of patience.

Needless to say, I actually got some work done, since I used to PC alot less 🙂

err and to stay even the slightest on-topic, yea I thought this was about Playstation 2 too. 🙂

And I use a PS/2 port for my mouse too... no reason to clog up a USB port when I have a port MADE for a mouse handy.

i use USB for mouse b/c i heard the refresh rate is much higher than on PS/2. I just switched my keyboard over to USB also and I haven't noticed any difference either way. nice thing about ps/2 mode for keyboard is that spacebar powers the whole system on, which doesn't happen when it's plugged into usb (on my computer, that is)

I use a ps2 keyboard but my intellimouse optical is plugged in usb. Using the mouse rate checker I get about 120 updates/sec with usb and only about 80 with ps2 + rate set to 200hz. I'm in win2k.

Raspewtin, you can download programs that will increase the refresh rate of PS2 ports up to 200Hz, such as this one. I believe USB ports run at 120Hz so you should get better results with the PS2 hack if you can tell the difference.

[Edit]Oh... so I guess the PS2 hack doesn't live up to its claim...

PS/2 rate works fine in win98, major difference 100hz->200hz for me, the logitech drivers let you set up to 200hz in win2k (or at least thats what mine say, for the newest ones out)
