PS2 price drop anytime soon?


They [the rumors] are saying that it will happen around E3 and will coincide with the
North American release of the PS2 harddrive. The rumored prices are $149.99 for the
console, or $199 for the console w/ harddrive (and potentially the BB adapter as well).
 
ps2 is due for a drop...that thing has been overpriced in comparison to xbox and gamecube for a while now.

who still buys those anyway? I keep reading that its the market leader but I haven't heard of anyone buying a new console today getting a ps2.

Lots and lots of people. Probably not many techies, but the general public sees lots of games for the PS2. The backwards compatibility helps the PS2 also. You have to remember that most of the public is very ignorant of everything but marketing. They don't know the differences between the two machines. The PS2 is in the #1 sales position and has been there every month I've seen statistics for.

That said I have enjoyed my PS2 and would get one again if I had to do it all over. I just hope they drop the price soon so I can pick up an xbox sometime in the next year (i'm a gaming addict and want both)....

Nah, I'm sure hackers & crackers are drooling all over this. I'm guessing it won't be as easy as Xbox to hack... but... 🙂
 
ohh i can wait for the ps2 price to drop, then used systems at EB or gamestop will be even cheaper...wooo woooooooo

If it actually comes out over here in the good ol US, it'll be like the Virtual Boy.

If it doesn't come out over here, it'll be like the 64DD.

I hope it could play mp3s and divxs.... that would be sweet... it has a built in ethernet connector so we could surf the net on it...

sony released a full dev kit, i'm guessing it will be easier.

Well its required in Japan, so if they do decide to bring it to the US, I'm sure it will also...
I still think sales of an HDD will do poorly...

I see no logic in a PS2 price drop. Why? Sales are great for them. The only reason I can see one coming is because of Nintendo drops due to poor sales, which in turn causes Microsoft to drop, which in turn causes Sony to drop.
 
Just because the XBOX is more advanced then the PS2 it doesn't mean everyone is gonna run out and get one. Look at AMD products. Besides, PS2 has core games that XBOX does not and that's a big selling point, in both directions. I bought a PS2 couple months back for the games. Is that such a terrible thing?

E3 is different days year to year. Last year it was towards the end, which is probably why he said end of May. Year before that it was right at the begining of May.

I believe FF X or FF XI, whichever one is the MMOG. As well as other MMOGs and possible downloadable expansions/addons to games.

The online FF costs $12.50 a month, and it may or may not come to the US(at one point it was, then it wasnt, and it possibly was, not sure now0. The game wasnt exactly the hottest seller in Japan last I checked(two months after release), but I guess it could have picked up.
