Hello,
I recently bought a 4 port Linksys KVM to use as a monitor only switch. When opening the package and realizing that there is no power adapter it occured to me that the device pulls power from the ps2 port. I am going to use this device to control the secondary monitor I have on 2 different computers and connect the box that allows me to use my ps2 ona computer monitor (Currently I have a 2 port kvm on the 2 computers with my main monitor. I wanted to run dual monitors on both computers while giving me the option to to have the primary on one machine and the secondary on another. If that clears up any questions). My question is; Does anyone see a problem with my getting a standard 5v AC->DC power pack from radio shack and wiring it into VCC and Ground in a PS2 connector to supply the KVM with power? I realize that I am going to have to power each port on the KVM that I want to have a monitor plugged into because its going to pull power from the port it is switched too. This shouldnt be a problem since it will only pull from one port at a time so I can just Y it off from the 5v pack.

Thank you for any help,
-Mike

That sounds logical to me. I would howevr find a kvm that had a spot to use an optional power adapter though and avoid the hacking up if you will.

bgmicro.com has lots of wall warts (regulated ones too) at good prices. Many of the Radio Schlock wall warts are unregulated (IOW, the actual voltage can be off much more than the +/-5% of computer power) and may not work well w/ computer stuff.

Thanks for the replies. In thinking about it the cleanest and cheapest way to get the 5v would be to connect it to the 5v line from the PSU. Does anyone know if the KVM has its own internal clock or does it clock from the keyboard?
