PS2 ports and grounding.. ATX and grounding ??

Hi all ..

I have killed the PS2 ports on two boards within the past month and I don't know how I do it.
The first case is a custom one that I made (pics in my sig) and I'm not sure, maybe I didn't ground it properly or something. What is supposed to be grounded? I used a standard ATX backplate for that case that was ripped out of this generic case that I had.

The other mobo was an A7V (I'm not 100% positive that the PS2 is busted) in an Antec sx635 that I just put together for my old man .. when I plugged in his mouse and keyboard they wouldn't register ... I could kind of feel like plugs weren't going in all the way, but I know I installed the board correctly .. so I'm just using USB stuff on his machine, I didn't want to remove the mobo and reseat it or anything ..

So anyone know? What might cause PS2 ports to go? Is it grounding issues maybe? If you look at the pics of my case in my sig maybe you'll see something that I am unaware of. Thanks.

Please don't take offense if this question seems a little condesending.

You do shut down the systems to plug PS/2 stuff in....right? They aren't hot swappable.

Hmm.. see I know they aren't hot swappable but I never thought that I could damage them like that.
I think I remember plugging and unplugging the keyboard on my P2B a few times when it wasn't registering, I thought maybe the connection was loose or something. Damn .. I guess that might be what it was then huh?
No, I don't think that was condescending, but thanks for being sensative to that 🙂
