PS2 Playstation 2 @ *Bay - Sellers BEWARE!!!

We all have the perception that putting the PS2 on *Bay will guarantee $1000, $2000 and there's a bid as high as $15000. But I did a little research tonight, and something seems really fishy. If you do a search of all the auctions that has ended on the PS2, most of the bids are from the same bidders who won 5, 10, even 20 PS2 auctions already. 99% of the time, I think that it's just fraud and they're not gonna carry out the entire transaction. Please feel free to respond, agree, disagree, whatever. For the sellers, please reply as well to see if there's actually anyone who has received payment for over $1000. I guess the PS2 isn't as overvalued as it looks after all

Moderators Please don't delete, I think that this is a very important thread!!

Thx.

If it's all the same person winning the auctions, then you're probably correct. I wouldn't doubt you'd easily make 60-100% profit if you had some to sell though.

From what I've seen, I believe the current legit price for a console on eb@y is around 600-700 bucks. Probably get higher as the christmas season comes closer.

The Official word from Sony
(at the Metreon in San Francisco) is that 800,000 more units will be shipped by Christmas, approx. 100,000 per week, making a total of 1.3 million units out there (and thousands more auctions on eb@y if there is a PS2 craze for christmas)...personally if I wanted to sell on eb@y, I would try to sell ASAP, I doubt prices will go higher than 600-700..there will be too much competition

i occasionally sell car stereo stuff on eb@y, and i estimate 75% of my sales are to kid bidders or deadbeats who never follow through....eb@y should really require everyone to place a credit card on file, and charge the BIDDER for the listing fee and comission if they dont follow through!!!

...i can only imagine that video game auctions have even more deadbeat and kid bidders than car stereo items!!

Yep, legitimate price is $600-700. But I did see one serious bidder go up to $800 something.

If you did want to sell, wouldn't it be advantageous to wait until after Thanksgiving? That way all the store shelves would be long cleaned out and people would start doing their Christmas shopping. Of course, this is just a theory. I dream of having the option to sell a PS2, but the idea of camping outside Best Buy in a sleeping bag with No Doz didn't appeal to me :)

Hehe, I remember wanting to buy a Playstation 2 when it was first supposed to come out, one year after the play station... hehehehe Sony originally planned backward compatibility and a new system every year..... Well I gave up on them and decided on a Dreamcast. At half the price now, I dont see what benefits the PS2 has over the dreamcast..... the DVD player thing? does it have digital audio out? If it cant do 5.1 or dts whats the point? Also, to back up games you have to mod it... ewww... Dreamcast games are much easier to have back ups of.

Yeah, this isn't really related to a hot deal or anything, unless perhaps you mean the hot deal you'd get after selling the ps2, heh. I waited 5 hours in line for one, so that I'd be able to sell it, but after seeing how chaotic egay is, I think i'll just place an ad in the local paper. People will be willing to pay more for a system they can actually come and see.

I'll probably wait until next thursday to see if those playstations actually got shipped before i will sell...if the rumors about 100,000 shipping each week are true, then everyone who got a ps2 just to sell it will have a harder time selling. I originally planned on selling during the month of dec., but it seems too risky that some sort of massive shipment will take place. i want to break $1k selling this, it seems possible if the shipment rumors aren't true. I'll try the ad next week, anyways, though..."1.5k or best offer" sounds good, heh.

da bastard, i totaly agree with you! DC RULES! I got ~30 games, just got Q3A! But it still doesnt compare to my PC! The PC is the only way to game! If they could just come up with a controller standard(like a console) things would be great for the PC.

i don't mean to hate on everybody here, but you guys are kind of messed up. there are people like me who wanted to go get a playstatation 2 to PLAY and KEEP, but then otehr people are goign out anrd taking it so they can sell it to people like me for a higher price. oh well, i guessi might have done the same thing. i figure i will just wait until january when the craze dies down. it isn't like any of the release games are any good. But i do anticipate GT2000 and MGS2. oh well, good luck selling.

spec411, I totally agree with you...ebay's officials are getting way too cocky with their "we only act as a venue for the buyer and seller to meet" bullsh!t. I sell a lot of electronics/PC parts, and I've gotten pretty lucky with the 60+ sales I've conducted, all but one has gone through, the lone deadbeat payed for my auction fees ($15 for a $$$ card).

It'll be interesting to see if the feds decide to jump in...

da bastard,
It is a Sony DVD Player with 5.1 DTS.

Thus its a much better VALUE than the dreamcast.

Highest legit bid seen on E-bay yesterday was $2025.00 was watching them to see what I could expect when I put mine up. The bidder had a previous high bid of 18?? and someone came in and bid 19?? and then the first bidder went up to 2025 I printed it out at that time.. the bidder that bid 2025 had 77 positive feedback and really wanted that ps2. Probably got it for 2025 because the other bidder had no feedback and was new or had changed name recently. Others can only hope to get that out of them, but we shall see.
Stupid typo make me come back and edit this.

i don't think people would pay into the thousands for these things.
but very rich people w/ a desperate need for it may dish out as much as 900.

fair selling price would be around 500 and you would more than likely get paid.

Actually the Playstation 2 is a $299 progressive scan DVD player. For those of us fortunate enough to have High Definition TVs, the machine is worth the price to use as a DVD player alone. No offense, crzyc, but I seriously doubt your $125 DVD player will output progressive.

The PS2 does DTS decoding? Everything I've read said it is DD 5.1 and DTS ready (meaning you need a separate decoder).
