I don't know how picture quality compares, but like I mentioned earlier, the Xbox undoubtedly has more features than the PS2 when watching DVDs. Yes, you have to you the DVD kit, but until end of month you get an MS rebate back on the price of it!

I used to wonder about this very question before I experienced X-Box Live.

I haven't experienced Xbox or Ps2 online, but everything I've heard tells me you're right. PS2 online is a joke. Nobody does it. I bet lots of ps2 owners don't even know that you can. Hell I'm not even sure you can even though I've seen the network adapter. Xbox owns online. If that's your forte the choice is obvious.

BTW, I have the PS2 network adapter, but so far I've only played Madden 2003 on-line. It is playable, but kind of laggy. But what can you expect when you're stuck using dial-up. And with the crappy phone lines in my neighborhood (which is relatively new, BTW... go figure), I can only connect at 28.8Kbps!

I have seen XBox Live in action, and it is impressive.

Maybe if FFXI is ported to XBox (and broadband becomes available in my area at an affordable price), I'll have second thoughts about being a Sony fanboy...

i got both. i would say PS2 for the gaming. the DVD opitons and set up is nicer on Xbox but eh...i would go with PS2

sometimes u can get dsl even on supposedly sh*tty lines my phone lines can't do more then 28.8 yet can do 1.5mbs dsl tested speed matches my friends in other neighborhoods

If you were to buy a console right now, which one would you get? I think I am finally tired of constantly upgrading my PC at a cost of hundreds per year to avoid paying $200 for a console, so I am toying with taking advantage of one of the good holiday deals.

I know PS2 generally has more good titles, but Xbox is cheaper, has far more headroom for future games, and seems like it is coming into its own in terms of having good games (Rallisport, Splinter Cell, MechAssault, Halo 1 and 2, Doom III). I do like the idea of 5.1 surround audio as well, since I have a decent little 5.1 home theater. I would really like to play Vice City, but I want to choose a console wisely - how big a difference do you see in overall quality of games? Which is the better overall choice in your opinion? I like driving games and nearly anything violent!

I hacked my xbox with a mod chip and a big hard drive, so now its the only machine I use. The only games I may get for my other two systems (i'm such a friggin geek to own all three) are vice city and metroid. Everything else these days is cross platform and the xbox version is usually the best. If you like killing games, I think xbox is the right one.

Of course, still. No vice city.
