Not sure if this qualifies for general hardware ... more off topic, but I'm hardcore Sony guy, so PS2.

If only between those 2 get the PS2. But I would get the GC instead of either of the other two.

PlayStation2.

The exclusive games are better than those available on XboX. In my opinion anyway. I bought the system purely because of the Gran Turismo series anyway. :)

Playstation 2 anyday.

I played HALO the other day and it was kind of lame. You bascially move around the same floors every time. X-box is no innovation at all. Graphics aren't impressive and it carshed after 3 hrs of playing.

Personally, I'd lean towards getting a PS2 at the moment over the other systems, primarily because of games. The PS2 has large library of titles, and recently there have been some really high quality games released. For example: Ico, Silent Hill 2, Devil May Cry, Grand Theft Auto 3, Gran Turismo 3, Metal Gear Solid 2 are some I can think of off the top of my head. The backward compatiblity for older PS1 games is handy too, still a couple good PS1 games left to come out.

Xbox. Anyone who says Halo is lame is either biased or hasn't played it more than 5 minutes. I don't know what game Bluga played, but I'm in Level 3 in Halo, and the environment changed every level. And Xbox doesn't crash, go look at the Firingsquad article, they played it for two weeks and never had a crash...

Yes, PS2 has more games right now, but most of the A+ titles are coming to Xbox. (Silent Hill 2, Gran Theft Auto 3, Metal Gear Solid 2 (will be called Metal Gear Solid X, and will be improved), Tony Hawk 3).

The only games it won't be getting are GT3 and Final Fantasy. (well, you never know about FF, but they haven't announced it) I played GT3 a lot, and while there's no doubt it's the best racing game out there, the graphics in Project Gotham look better. Don't get me wrong, GT3 has a lot more depth, but I'm using this as an example for the Xbox's capabilities. I'd like to see a PS2 do this... ;)

If you buy an X-Box right now im sure you would feel like you wasted your cash. You have a nice computer set-up so I'd pick up a PS2 then maybe in a year go out and get an XBox.

3 hours huh? Must have liked it alot more than you mentioned to be playing it for 3 hours. Anyway....If you like mulitplay I'd go for the Xbox. Halo and DOA3 looked very impressive to me,and remember these are just launch games. Also next year Unreal Championship will be coming out which looks amazing and will launch the online network microsoft has setup. Rumors are you can play with atleast 16 other people online if you have a broadband connection. I find that pretty innovative for a console.

IGN XBox

"Some people are going to tell you that this is the most beautiful racing game made to date? and those people have never played Gran Turismo."

"I'd like to see a PS2 do this..."

I'm taking a guess here, but I bet your X-box can't do that either....unless...you have a nice TV to output that 1280x960 reso ;)

I don't care what IGN says, the cars in PGR look much better than in GT3. I agree GT3 has nicer skies and more detailed buildings, though it's not that noticeable, but PGR has more buildings and stuff on the screen. Another thing is the windows on the cars aren't tinted, you see the driver steering and shifting. There are also many camera views, unlike the 2 crappy ones in GT3. But like I said, GT3 is still a much better racing game, has more cars, etc... But it isn't flawless, and some aspects of PGR are better.

Yeah, that pic is taken from IGN, and it's 1280x960 because it's my wallpaper... :) But you do know that HDTV resolution is 1920x1080? ;)

<< PS2's got the games, and PGR is definitely no GT3 lol! >>

I didn't say it was, I said the cars and certain aspects of the game, mostly graphically, are better. It's not aiming to be the same kind of game anyways...

Depends on the games you wanna play. Do you wanna play Halo or MGS2? It's MGS2 all the way, for me.

IMO buying get the PS2 the X-box just cant compete to PS2's library right now

if you by now the only option i would consider would be the PS2

i would wait 6 months / 1 yr to see how the PS2 stacks up against the X - box

i have a PS2 and GT3, Devil May Cry are awesome

SSX TRICKY and MGS 2 are on the way and maybe some Grand Theft Auto 3, Final Fantasy X, XI, Virtua Fighter 4, Tekken 4, Suikoden III, and possibly Medal on Honor III, Soul Calibur II

the only thing that excites about other consoles is Soul Calibur II (on PS2 also), Metroid Prime and POSSIBLY ZELDA, and Dead or Alive 3

from what I read about Halo from people that have played some loved it some feel it was only mediocre ; i doubt anyone would say that about the original metal gear solid when it came out; halo may be a good game but it does not live up to all the hype

my take is if you want to be playing a lot of games in the near future
you can beat the PS2's library otherwise wait 6 months to a year and pick the sure winner; i'm betting it will be PS2

Lets take price into this. And availability.

PS2 - £200 (for me anyway) (thats about $300 if I'm not mistaken) - Available
Xbox - ??? - not available yet

Its safe to say that going on PRICE the systems are matched almost. People are comparing things on just games. Lets take price into this aswell

Well, in North America, PS2 and Xbox are both 300$ US, and they're both available right now, so that argument is kinda weak... :)

Fair enough, I had no idea that the XboX was that cheap. My argument still applies for the UK anyway ;)

RIGHT NOW go with Playstation 2
RIGHT NOW the Xbox is style over substance.

Ever hang out with a really hot but dumb girl for extensive periods of time? Visions of punching her in the face dance through your brain. All looks and no substance sucks.

LATER ON PS2 -> similar/same games, lower quality graphics/sound
= Xbox or Gamecube

LATER ON I'd put my money on Xbox although Gamecube could work if enough third parties jump on because Nintendo's 1st party stuff often starts out slow and gets ridiculously good over time.

Xbox's controller = clunky/GARGANTUAN ... makes fighting/high action/twitch) games difficult/annoying. BUT if you like DC's controller, Xbox's is fine

Final analysis = I don't want my consoles to collect dust, so I'd buy PS2 RIGHT NOW
