PS2 or GameCube????

I am going to get a new system this holiday season and have decided to get PS2 or Gamecube, Xbox looks pretty lousy to me and no good games.

I played GameCube for about an hour today and really enjoyed it, the graphics were GREAT and it was really fast. Sound was also great and I liked the controller. Its size was also sweet.

PS2 on the other hand has much more games and has tons of games that I am dying to get (GTA3, GT3, Devil May cry, TOny Hawk 3) but its graphics never seemed anything special to me and its loading time isnt nearly as good as GC's. Also, In time the system will show its age against the GC.

I do not need a DVD player so the $100 difference is appealing to me.

Anyone have any suggestions on what i should get?

PS2 for life! I prefer game play more than just graphics alone. If its all bout graphics den I stick to my PC. PS2 has great games.

It's all about the games, not the graphics

If you really wanting those games for the PS2 then get the PS2

If there's some GC games you want then get a GC.

Ok, want an opinon?
The Gamecube may very well have better graphics, but I think it's sales will fall. Many will stay with Sony because legacy of the N64, I mean come on.. It sucked. Alot of companys will go to Sony to make sales, in turn better games for Sony. The Play Station 2 is the way to go, for the games alone.

I've played all three and I'd say a tie between PS2 and Gamecube right now.

I give a slight edge on gameplay and graphics to Cube. PS2 has and will always have the bigger library of games though.

Xbox isn't really a contender in my book though. Maybe a year from now. But I'm a PC gamer, so I doubt it.

Xbox is completely out of the question, why? because it is a cross between a PC and console that does not mesh well. Also Wehn buying a system I look for future games, which Xbox has none that im interested in.

I am more concerned in games, but I am not liking the idea that PS2 is almost a year older than GC.

Also the fact that PS2 is $100 more for a system a year olde.

3 Reasons to buy a PS2 (IMO):

Gran Turismo 3
Metal Gear Solid 2
Grand Theft Auto 3

There's some other GREAT games out there too, Tony Hawk 3, Devil May Cry, the sports lineup is good as well, I have Madden 2002 and it's the best footbal game I've played (although the X Box version looks to be just as good). Plus there's games that haven't come out yet, I'm drooling for the new Wipeout 🙂

Of the games you mentioned, the only ones not coming to Xbox are Devil May Cry and GT3. GTA3, MGS2, Silent Hill 2, THPS3 are all going to be on it... Then add Halo, DOA3, PGR, Amped (which is an excellent game despite the reviews I've seen...), and the upcoming games Wreckless, Rallisport Challenge, etc... Also, some PC parts (like a hard drive and ethernet adapter) are nice to have.

The console lacking games IMO is the Gamecube. (take away the first party games, and all you're left with is a remake of Resident Evil...😉) The only good game it has right now is Rogue Leader.

But since you seem to be determined to not get an Xbox, I'd go with the PS2.

The difference between the games I listed and yours is the fact that they can be had now on PS2 😉

fanboy. 😉

The only (kind of) good game XBox has right now is Halo. Sony and Microsoft... what first party? 😉

Perhaps you haven't seen the list of upcoming releases for GCN. That's only the confirmed ones.

I'm currently enjoying Super Monkey Ball, Rogue Leader, THPS3, Madden 2002, and Wave Race on my GCN. I'm thinking of picking up the mobile monitor and making it the most kickin' portable system ever made.

Exactly. I don't even think any of those games are coming soon for the Xbox. I read somewhere that MGS2 wouldn't be ported over for a looong time.

Gasp! Super Monkey Ball is on GC??? Damn, I gotta get one then! I can't miss out on Super Monkey Ball! 😀😉

hey, I did recommend he get a PS2... 🙂 But he said for Christmas, so many of those should be out by then. Silent Hill 2, THPS3, GTA3 shouldn't take long, but I agree MGS X will be longer. (it's supposed to be different then MGS2...)

Oh come one, can't you do better than an IGN link? 😉 there you go, see I can post links too...

Like I said, the only good game is Rogue Leader. Super Monkey Ball? By the title, you'd think it would be some masochistic beastiality porn simulation, but no, just another kid's game. Madden is out for Xbox and looks better than the GC version BTW, and THPS3 is out for PS2 and will be on Xbox shortly. And I'm going to pretend you didn't mention Waverace...

If I want a portable system, I'll get a GB Advance. My definition of portable doesn't include having to be plugged to a wall.

<< Gasp! It took the PS2 a year and a half to get 3 decent games! >>

*decent* games? lol, just for that, I'm not responding to the rest of your flamebait 😉

I'd go with the GameCube if you like the Nintendo franchise. Nintendo will have a lot more games out in December and while the PS2 has a bigger game library, chances are you won't care about 25% of the games that the PS2 has out right now. Plus, Nintendo is cheaper and by the hardware, faster and better than the PS2. The only thing the PS2 has against the GameCube is the fact that it allows you to play DVD's with no extra addons or anything. Still, there is one real reason I'm keeping away from the PS2. Only 2-player capabilities. Where are those great sleepovers where you don't sleep and play the same 4-player game all night long if you can only play 2 people at a time.

Super Monkey Ball is seriously one of the best multiplayer games ever. Maybe you have no friends. 😉

Madden does not look better on XBox than GCN. You obviously haven't seen them side-by-side, and just ruined your credibility by saying that.

Yep, GCN owners get THPS3, while XBoxers get to play tired THPS2 for quite some time until THPS3 comes out.

Heh, Wave Race is a niche title for people who liked the first one. One of the best racing games (in terms of gameplay) ever made. Definitely not for everyone.

Like I said, the only good game right now for XBox is Halo. In the (Jet Set Radio) Future, there will be some good titles coming out.

Wow, you really don't know much about the consoles, do you? Typical XBox fanboy.
No need to plug GCN into a wall, there's a rechargable battery pack coming out.
The Mobile Monitor can be used on your XBox, BTW, but you'll get a hernia.

Taken from Gamespot:
Madden 2002 is the best game of simulation-style football on any platform. For the Xbox, it is slightly better-looking than its PS2 and GameCube counterparts, but that's it. Aside from a few graphical enhancements, the game is a virtual carbon copy of the PS2 and GameCube versions.

IGN basically said the same thing I think, since you like to link them...

And please man, you're the one who's not gonna have any friends anymore when you start walking around with your GC, battery pack and monitor hanging from a rope tied around your neck. 😀 You better have a BIG battery pack too, because you won't be playing too long...

In the meantime, I'll be enjoying the comfort of my couch or bed, dreaming of those Monkey Balls...
