Hi there. I've got a gateway 2185W 21" monitor, which works like a dream hooked to my PC. It has component inputs, so I plugged my PS2 up, but the games look terrible! I enable progressive scan in the options, yet they look all pixilated and blurry. Is there an option i'm missing? Help!

The PS2 is blurry to begin with. Not as crisp at PC games nowadays. Things have to be more blurry on the PS2, otherwise the videocard will keel over and die.

That's simply because your lcd has a fixed native reslotuion so its never going to look really good on it.

It doesn't stretch to the whole screen. There's options on the monitor to have the PS2 display at it's regular resolution, which leaves black bars on the left and right. That's fine. The picture is just ugly.

Can you get a picture of it maybe?

I plugged my Xbox/GC/PS2 into my Dell monitors (2005FPW/2405FPW), using S-Video and sometimes component, and I thought it looked pretty good. Sure it looked more pixelated than on a TV, but it still looked great in my opinion.

I should be getting this monitor tomorrow and I'll test it out and see if I get the same problem.

Its possible that its a faulty monitor, but I don't know. I seem to recall reading someone plugging an external DVD player that upscales to 720p/1080i, and they complained that it looked terrible, so I don't know.

It does have Faroujda's DCDi processing chip, so it should in theory be good at scaling non-native images.

Unless you have selected 1:1 scaling you are trying to view at best an upscaled 640x480 image.

If it was displaying at native resolution on a monitor that size, it would be a little box in the middle of the screen. :p PS2 just generally isn't going to look very good on a computer monitor, as even the cheapest computer monitors are going to show the limitations of a system that was designed for use on an analog tv. An LCD is going to make it even worse, because you're throwing scaling into the mix.
