I just picked up the PS2 Network adapter, and I see you can attach an IDE HD to it.
  • Has anyone done this yet?
  • Is it supported?
  • Can I even do anything with it, if I were to install a hard drive?

sorry, can't answer any of your questions.. but got one of my own:

how much did it cost?

seems like you might be able to use it as a large memory card, that would be nice.

I noticed this when I installed mine last week. I haven't hooked anything up to it yet. I don't think the PS2 would just find the drive. And even if it did, Im not sure what you could do with it right now (other than hack on it! :D).

Maybe I'll be the first to try it tomorrow... I happen to have a hard drive sitting here. Hmmm.... ;)

Ok, time to go hook the thing up and play some Madden online!

In the future, possibly next year, Sony plans to sell a hard drive. However, if you buy the linux package, it comes with a 40 GB (I think) hard drive.

Since were talking bout PS2's online I have a question. I ordered a Linksys router so I can put my PS2 and GCN(when its out) online through my RR. Did you run into any problems? Also, is the Linksys router any good? I got it from OD with the 20 off 75 coupon but dunno much bout routers.

Thanks

That router rocks. I've set a few different friends up with it, no problems and it's always worked great.

The Linux kit does come with a 40GB hard drive. For some reason, Sony decided to "revamp" their PS site in July, promising it to come back "bigger and better". As of yet, it is not back up. So until then no one can buy a Linux kit from them. They mentioned that the hard drive required some kind of funky formatting to properly work with the PS2, so I doubt you could get a drive working with the network adapter, unless you could figure out how to do this format. Even then, you probably wouldn't be able to use it with a PC after that.
