There I was, happily surfing the net when my PS2 mouse decides to throw a fit! :(

It starts pressing buttons all by itself, the mouse pointer stops and starts when you try to move it and phases in and out of reality, then the damn thing just ends by refusing to move and killing most of the OS. :(

I've tried resetting the computer and removing/reinstalling all drivers in normal and safe mode. The mouse will work ok for a while but then goes into psycho mode. :(

Funny thing is, when I swap the mouse over to serial everything works fine using the standard MS serial driver. The OS won't load however if I install the driver that came with my mouse which is required to use the third button. :(

Could this be a virus?
Is my mouse bust?
Has WinME messed up the registry and I'll have to do a re-install?
Can anyone help?

Thanks! :)

Sounds like a trojan but that wouldnt make sense since it works when you moved it to serial?

I've done a full virus check using the latest reference file. Nothing.

I've tested the mouse in DOS - same problem.

I'm almost sure now that either my PS2 port is dead (I've never hot wired anything either) or my mouse has somehow lost PS2 compatibility.

Either way I'm almost certain it's a hardware issue.

Looks like serial/USB mice from now on.

Unless someone else has any suggestions?

*crosses fingers* :)
