How long do you think it will take for sony to stop supporting the ps2 or do you think they will continue to support it for years to come?

Not anymore. It was for about the first 9 months of the 360's existence, but it's definitely cooled off a bit. The GBA was still selling pretty decently when Nintendo dropped manufacturing...

I think there are still a few new games in development for it too. I haven't see the PS2 motion sport game come out yet.

It will be around for at least 2 years. There are tons of parents with younger kids just getting into consoles and the PS2 has a huge library of games for dirt cheap plus the system is dirt cheap so it is still a good starter console for many youngsters out there with budget concious parents.

It's not even dirt cheap yet...still $129 at most places. They will drop it to $99 this Christmas and it will sell like hotcakes.

When sales slows down at that price, they will probably start a "greatest hits" bundle with a console + Grand Theft Auto or Metal Gear Solid 3...something like that to keep sales going strong through 2010-2011.

Apparently there was a HUGE surge when it dropped to $99 for one week.... and that was only at Target.

It still has a few good years in it.

Since the latest version of the PS3 doesn't play PS2 games, I would imagine they would keep supporting the PS2 for a long time to come.

I just bought one. I have a 360 and it is my favorite console ever but I hadn't had a PS2 since 2000 after I had disk drives fail in 2 of them.

I got it to play Disgaea, God of War, and all the RPGs I missed.

Definitely having fun with it.

I have many friends that play PS2 and have friends over to play it. I tell them that they are waaaay too old skewl to hang around with.

February NPD console sales (US):

"Nintendo was once again the undisputed victor, with the DS selling 587,600 units and the Wii 432,000. However, the Xbox 360, the third-place finisher for most of 2007, finished at the bottom of the pack once again, coming in fifth with 254,600 units. It was bested by both the PlayStation 2's 351,800 units and 280,000 units of the Blu-ray-disc-playing PlayStation 3, " (GameSpot)

The PS2 is still outselling the PS3 and 360, just not every month. In February it outsold the 360 by almost 100K.

yeah i think it'll still sell well in india and china if they were inclined to push it there. its cheap enough for the middle class there now.

note: thats a lot of Ls there.

You'll know PS2 is on it's way out when they start making an ultra portable version with a little screen like they did with PS1.

And when they include 5-10 games, maybe even a second controller.

I would so be all over that.

I was hoping that would be the slim(mer) model, but apparently not 🙁

Portable DVD player with video in, velcro, external battery pack, slap slim PS2 onto portable DVD player, connect external rechargable batterypack to slim ps2 - instant portable ps2. I do this on long car trips. Keeps the kids quiet, until battery dies.
