I believe that only refers to the GH software, so without knowing exactly what the OP is asking, I don't think we can be sure that will answer his question.

OP, PS2 GH guitars will not work on the PS3. I believe that if you have a PS3 guitar, that you can play the old PS2 software with them, but not with a PS2 guitar.

Supposedly one of the Radio Shack PS2->USB adapters allows the guitar to work well, but I've never tried it out.

Thats what I was wondering ... was the PS2 guitar. I dont care for the RB guitar enough to want to use that on GH. I have heard the GH guitar is alot better... but who knows if a RB guitar will work with GH .....

As far as i know, the only way you can play ps2 guitar hero on ps3 is from third party guitar connectors. But they don't work well.. at all. hammer ons/pull offs dont work, neither does the whammy.

I did hear about a third party guitar being made for ps3 that can play the ps2 games, and can be switched from playing gh3 and rockband for ps3.

Edit:

on second look, i thought it said that it could play the ps2 versions, but im not 100% sure

On other sites, while researching the nyko guitar linked by MarkW, I was informed that you can't play any PS2 GH games on the PS3, but maybe I misread that.

That's actually a neat idea, I'm going to load up GH 2 on my PS3 right now and tell you if it works

Okay after screwing around for awhile, the GH3 wireless guitar doesn't work with GH1 or GH2.

I can literally use the GH3 guitar to screw around in the PS3 menu, select GH2/GH1, and suddenly the GH3 guitar disconnects. There's no way to get it working.

The game loads fine and you can play with the sixaxis controller (lame), there just isn't support for the PS3 GH3 controller in GH2 or GH1. It's especially crappy since there's a PS2 version of GH3 (with its own wireless guitar), implying that there may be some easy software workaround that was just never implemented.

I read something about people buying those PS2 - USB adapters and being able to play GH2 on the PS3 using the old guitar, but I heard it didn't work completely correctly (star power and strumming were both broken).

Maybe if enough people e-mail Harmonix we can get them to release a patch or something for the PS3 that lets you play GH2 and GH1 with the GH3 guitar.

Even though GH1 & 2 were developed by Harmonix, they have nothing to do with the Guitar Hero franchise anymore. At this point it's all on Activision. After the GH3/Rock Band compatibility debacle, they've shown how much they care about their paying customers so I wouldn't hold my breath.

Super, I guess I never play the old guitar heroes anymore anyway (although Freebird does rock).

It's still bullcrap that the PS3 can emulate the games but can't let you use the controller to play them :p
