PS2 Controller Messed Up

I know a PS2 controller isn't a computer part, but it is sorta of like one. So here's the problem, my PS2 controller was messing up and sticking. I think I got something stuck in there. So I tried washing it with just a wash rag, but that didn't work it still kept sticking. So I took it apart and just took all the pieces out and shook them because I thought there might be a piece of food or something inside of it. I put it back together with no problems, plugged it back into the PS2 and now its even worse. It keeps pushing up and Im not pushing on it. Can anyone tell me what I can do to make it work.

I really dont want to buy a new controller this one is pretty new, is there any way I could fix it so I dont have to buy a new one?

if you still have the box, take it back to wal-mart and exchange it
