PS2 (both of them) not reading discs, anything I can do?

title pretty much says it all.

Discs are clean. they've been getting worse and finally will not read a game. Funny part is some of the "older" games (2001/2002) will be read after 10 or so seconds.

No afraid to bust them open as they are way beyond warranty and I've done it once before to clean the lens with success.

thanks in advance

Call Sony. They offered me a free replacement for my out-of-warranty PS2 a few years ago.

thanks a bunch for the input MustISO.

All me and my honey wanted to do was play some SSX/DDR. I can't snowboard and she can't exercise. bad mojo.

I busted my original PS2 open to get it to read better and trust me it wasn't worth it. It was like fighting a losing battle. I'd adjust the ratio, it would read CDs fine but DVDs stopped working. Change ratio again, DVDs work but CDs no longer work. Play some games, all of a sudden DVDs and CDs both don't work, adjust ratio and can't get either to run, throw the damn thing away because I completely ruined any semblance of a warranty.

That website you posted is where I got my walkthrough of trying to save the ps2. It works fine, and is easy to follow (the walkthrough).

i've since just left my ps2 open, removed the case bits completely, sas i got so sick of opening it up everytime the DREs started again. I've had no problems with it being open, i keep it effectively in a drawer, doesn't overheat, doesn't get too dusty. It's still a temperamental POS, will play dvds fine, and some games, others it just, won't. I've given up on it completely, it was one of he originals, it's had a hard life, it's as good as dead, i'll keep it until I get a ps3 (assuming they're not too bad) then who knows what I'm going to do to it, stupid thing.

umm, already have one. been working great since launch day.

;)

But SSX with the PS2 controller just can't be beat. And for now we haven't figured out how to hook the DDR dance pad up to the 360.

I'm going to do some adjusting to see what happens. thanks again for all the feedback.
