PS2 and Projection TV's

I want to connect my PS2 to my 53? projection TV. Some of the game manuals warn against this as damage to the TV may occur. What kind of damage will the PS2 cause and is it a reality or just that, a warning?

Screen burn on static parts of the display such as a HUD.

My friends run their XBox on a big screen and it hasn't hurt anything yet. Just don't leave it on constantly.
