Overstock probably picked them up from some retailer cheap. That is the business they are in.

<< GetReal:
(Note to all: this is not a flame war, just an educated discussion so we get our butts covered in an event that the PS2 is a refurb) :)

Your case is absolutely true if the PS2 is a brand-new one. What happens if its a refurb? If Overstock (abbreviated as OS) takes it back at full purchase price, no problem. If OS doesn't want it or wants 15% Restocking Fee, then what will AMEX do?
>>

AMEX will charge you a 15% restocking fee as per the merchant's return policy. Return protection simple extends the merchant's original return policy if one exists. If a return policy does not exist, Return Protection will credit you the cost of the item not including any S&H or sales taxes paid.

In th case of these PS2s I belive these are new units as well. The point that I was trying to make is not to assume and spend an extra 5 minutes checking out the condition of the item rather than several hours of headaches later trying to return.

BTW - Has any thought of using AMEX BVG to PM Overstocks.com's PS2 price? With BVG you could buy from a reliable local or Internet merchant.

Anyways I bought one ($228.94 shipped!) and lets hope they are not refurbs. Otherwise I'll dispute the 15% Restocking Fee with AXP since its false advertisement.

GetReal: Yes the AXP BVG should work. However these Overstock units appear to be early PS2 models (from the UPC) which are highly modifiable. The one sold in stores are generally new Anti-mod models (30001R Ver. 5) etc.

<< Not only that, they also have PS2 GT3 pack for $299-$20+4 = $283 shipped which isnt too bad >>

The playstation 2 is listed at 249.99 and GT3 at 29.99. Why is it better to pay $20 more for the PS2 GT3 pack? What does the pack has extra?

The GT3 Pack includes these extras:

Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec Game ($49.99 MSRP)
8MB Memory Card ($39.99 MSRP)
Extra DualShock 2 Controller ($29.99 MSRP)

I just received today the PS2 which I've ordered from bluelight.com for $303..... Ordered the one from Overstock.com for $228...
Returning the first one to K-Mart. Thank you JANDAMAN! You just saved me $75!!!! All I need now is an easy hack for this PS2.

Did you hear guys that SONY just anounced their online gaming service which should be launched in August?
I can't wait to play hockey or nba games with someone online (Hope EA will add online feature to their games)

Peace.

Sure the GT3 pack comes with memory card and extra controller? Their site site only speaks of "one controller and Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec".

i dont think that this ps2 is refurbished. in overstocks website, factory-reconditioned (aka "factory-refurbished or factory-serviced") products are identified with a specific "factory-reconditioned" icon. this ps2 system does not have that icon.....

From the product description page:

> This game console comes with one controller and Gran Turismo 3:A-Spec.

I guess it's better to buy the console + GT3 separately and save $20

Nice, $228 shipped for a brand new (this better be new) PS2!!!!

i think these are new because they are probably trying to blow out all the older models to make room for the newer ones which will ship with the HD

Son of a ...! I just bought the gt3 bundle thinking its a standard bundle with the extra controller and memory card. From the product description and the description on Shoplet.com's site, it seems that this particular part # just comes with gt3, no extra controller and memory card. I guess I'll just cross my fingers and hope for the best.

By the way, if you pick up any item in the free shipping section, your whole order gets free shipping (save $3.95).

for those intending to mod ur PS2, the GT3 pack is an excellent buy because the PS2 version that comes with the bundle pack is one of those rare versions that can be modded with neo4 chip as well as the upcoming messiah chip...

I have purchased items twice from overstock and have had a great experience both times. As for the PS2, they may be stock from all the retail stores that have closed in the last year (KMART, ShopKo, etc..) Anyway, congrats to whoever has the money to get in on this deal.

I have the GT3 bundle. All it has extra is the game GT3. No controller, no memory card. It was $329 when it was first released.

Did you guys see that they had Triple Play 2002 for $29.99. Is there a chance this is a misprint. It shows in stock but that game hasn't even been released yet. I went ahead and ordered it along with Gran Turismo, so I could use the coupon. I'm fighting this if they send me last year's version.

I picked up the PS ONE for 53.94 (including $20 discount), and am going to attempt to cancel my order of the PS 2, and the PS 2 with the game. So if anyone was really hoping for that PS 2, there should be a couple going back to in stock soon.

I don't think it's legal to buy those chips in the US anymore since they're not allowed to manufacture them according to the rule in England. Is that right? Those companies were based in england so any chips for the neo4 or the messiah that were produced were the last ones on the market.

Please, someone correct me if I'm wrong. altho soldering 88 points for the neo4 is gonna be a strain.

GetReal - I appreciate your comments and opinions. You're right - It is much wiser to spend an extra 5-10 minutes to determine the quality of a product than rather to face a headeache during a return. It took me several posts until I understood your point. Forgive me if I at all sounded to come off negitivly.

All the best,

Farhood

Thanks, but I never take offense to any comments from others directed to me here in these forums. All advice that I give is given in the spririt of trying to help out and hopefully that is how the advice is perceived. Anyway, good luck with your PS2 purchase and let us all know how it turns out. :)
