PS One compatibility coming to PS Vita 8/28

So PS One compatibility is finally coming to Vita on 8/28 with firmware 1.8. Looking for suggestions for great PS One games, since I skipped a few generation of consoles after SNES. I already have played FF VII and RE 2 on PC back in the day with Voodoo2, and purchased FFIX when I had PS3.

Planning to buy:
FFVII (yes again)
Xenogears
FFVIII
Chrono Cross

Any others I should consider?

Is playing an extensive game like FFVII that good on a handheld? I'd play something like FFVII for extended periods of time, just doesn't sound that appealing with smaller controller buttons / pads.

JRPGs seem to work better on handhelds IMO. They're extensive but digestible in bite size chunks. But only if they offer unlimited saves.

Is this PSX support like was on the PSP, where they just kind of went one or two games at a time, or did they go and implement a proper PSX emulator and bake it into the firmware?

Decent and NFS here I come. If this is true and they got a good library of games for it, I may have to buy this console. I was not planning on it, but to bring back some good old gaming back when I was in my 20's, Im all for it.

Xenogears. Yes I know you listed already. It's awesome enough to say again.

Check out anything from Square or Working Designs. Duh.

Interesting. . . . how? Ripped ISOs? Or is this just that you can buy the games again from the online store?

If disc images, aren't there all sorts of trouble getting discs to rip properly, what with sub-channel data and so on? When I've tried using a Playstation emulator with images from my original discs, or the discs themselves, some things never work right.

It'll be the same way it worked on the PSP and PS3. You'll buy games as PS1 Classics from the Playstation Store.

Honestly, there are so many good RPG's from the PS1 era you may never need to buy a Vita game again...lol

I second votes for Parasite Eve, FF7 & 8, Xenogears, and Lunar games. There were SO MANY good ps1 games.

Maybe I'll finally get around to playing FFIX now. I bought it on the PSN, but I don't get on my PS3 much.

Not to get this too far off-topic, but I don't think you're missing all that much not playing IX. It wasn't a bad game per se, but compared to the rather serious tone of VII and VIII, the almost slapstick tone of IX for rather large segments, just seemed a little out of place. VII and VIII were also pretty tough acts to follow, and IMO, IX just didn't quite manage to pull it off.

I wish I could get excited for this. There were some great psx games I remember playing but nothing I would go play again really on psn. Maybe if they release. A translated brave fencer musashi I will finally finish that.

I don't think I ever finished that game. There are a few Squaresoft games that are only available on the Japanese PSN Store. I wanted to go back and play SaGa Frontier, but it's not available on the US store. I ended up just buying the actual Playstation game.

I bought a few PSOne classics on my PS3 - FFVII, Silent Hill, Castlevania SoTN to name a few. Will those just be downloadable from the store for me, or will I have to re-purchase?

So not all the games are available yet, but those that are, you only have to purchase once. Sweet - I just tripled my Vita library. Or at least I will have, once they're all available.
