PS for an FX-55 6800 ultra x2 system

I'm looking to replace it. What are my best choices? I have a Cooler Master - wave master case.

No need to spend that much. A 420 OCZ should handle it without a problem at a lower volume and for nearly 50% fewer clams than the PCP&C.

i disagree...if you have the cash for SLi, get a great power supply with ~500w to power it.

This 420 powstream I have powers what youre stating and more with ease.

The problem is that you don't NEED more power to power it. Headroom, schmedroom. It's like putting premium fuel in a car that was designed to run on 87 octane. You're just pouring money down the drain. You can run a LOT of stuff on a quality 400w PSU.

Good advice, a quality 400 watt PSU will run almost any system you could put together.

Off hand, I'd recommend my 470watt Enermax noisetaker. The dual 12v rails would really help with SLI I'd imagine :thumbsup:

Sell it? I had to disconnect that computer, Anus probe started warning of low voltage on the 12v rail. It was in the low 10v range. Even if anus probe is off a little, that PS is shot I'm betting.

The X-Connect is just a piece of junk, it's probably working perfectly fine.

The X-Connect has been proven to falter under a decent load.

If you dont want to spend an arm and a leg to get the PCP&C the OCZ Powerstreams are on par with them most of the time, also Zippy makes very nice PSUs. A step lower Seasonic and Enermax are also very nice and rule in terms of efficiency.

I've seen big arguments over dual rail power supplies. Not sure if that is the way to go or not. This, not out yet, OCZ PowerStream 600W http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-104-153&depa=1 has more amps on one of the rails.

Falcon and others use the 2 rail enermax 600W : http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-103-461&depa=0

Alienware uses the single rail pc power and cooling 510: http://www.pcpowerandcooling.com/produc...ghperformance/turbocools/510/index.htm (I heard it's load - ?)

Lots of people here recomend the single rail OCZ 520: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-104-152&depa=0

What's the best bet?

It's not all about brute force..... Seasonic make some the highest quality best designed PSU's period, that's what I'd look at.

Out of those three in terms of power:
OCZ 600
Enermax 600
OCZ 520
PCP&C 510

In terms of quality:

You are aware that nobody can even take use of a 600watt PSU right? Find out how much power you need and pick the best PSU in that range. Even a FX55 and two 6800 Ultra's won't be able to break 400 watts.

PS. If you insist on insane amounts of power there is the new S12; more then a match for the OCZ, Enermax, and PCP&C

Very true, and i forgot about the S12. However in the reviews i have read on the 600Watt S12 it still cannot compete with the high end models.

Also as for not breaking 400Watts, you are completely correct, however for the sake of comparison that was what it would have looked like there.

I want to get a modular power supply, I only know of two: OCZ Modstream and the X-Connect. Do u guys know which is better? I want one for two reasons, I want to clean up my case, and I'm running a 400w Foxconn psu that came with the case.

Falcon, vodoo and other are building SLI systems with 2 rail power supplies. Alienware, I believe use to also but, now uses a single rail.

EDIT: looks like Alienware uses a special PC power and cooling 2 rail : http://www.alienware.com/Configurator_P...px?CatId=1181&ItemId=12604&ItemIdList=

Now if you read that thread - 2 rail power supplies may not be the way to go however, top pc manufactures are using them. Also, all the PS manufactures I making them. I'm just a noob so I don't know what to do.

My system sucks more power than the thread author. I thinking I may be safer with a single rail. I may also be able to get away with lower what PS but, I think my best bet would be the OCZ 520 or the PC power and cooling 510. Of those two, I've seen the OCZ recomended a lot on these forums and it's much cheaper.

The x- connect only lasted me 3 weeks. I sole my son's computer to search for a better PS. X-Connects are not a high quality power supply.
