Hello, I have gotten a new computer and it is usb only. I have a older keyboard that is ps/2 and a xkey pad that I use, is there an addaptor that would work here? I see some around when searching, but have been told and have read that they don't work all the time. I am useing windows xp media OS.
Older ps/2 to usb converter ? Is there one that works ?

Thanks
Mike

True - but most of the time they do. They are very cheap - if one doesn't work, try another.

When you start approaching the cost of a new USB keyboard, forget the adapter - get a new keyboard. :)

Other posters are correct in that not all of the PS/2 -> USB adapters out there work correctly. You need to look for ones that have active circuitry inside, i.e. one that doesn't just change the shape of the plug from PS/2 to USB. I have this one:

They have a database of PS/2 -> USB adapters on the geekhack forums, and the one I linked to is by far the most reliable and recommended adapter in their database. Here's a link to the database if you want to see the other adapters they have tested:

Here is an example of the type of adapters you should avoid:

As you can see that adapter doesn't contain any circuitry; it just changes the shape of the plug.

yup one actually converts. the other is for mice and kb that originally came with the things because they had support for both built in. for a while there most kb mice came with the things. i have a bunch somewhere:p unless u have some super sweet kb, its better to put hat money towards a new kb.
