Though, the emails that were in the deleted files folder were still there...

Another great reason to make backups.

Nah I've had one major problem with Outlook. Was upgrading from 2k to XP and it refused to properly import my old mail file. Thoroughly trashed it. Fortunately I didn't really care too much about it, but still damn annoying.

Im one of the MS haters, and looking through my posts I did not see any that blamed the software or anything similar. If I missed one, please point it out and Ill apologize for thinking that Windows people knew how to use their software ;)

EDIT: and user error is grounds for a thorough flaming.

Am I cool now?

not unless you specifiy which version of windows. :)

All of them!

My friend's friend's sister's boyfriend's mom's aunt's grandson told his grandma who told her niece who told her son who told his girlfriend who told her brother who told my friend that windows sucks and so it must be true, afterall, he is majoring in Information Systems at Podunk College in Smallville, Kansas, and on weekends he works at CompUSA. Besides, I always get the BSOD, you know the Binary Systems Outer Disturbance?

So, am I cool NOW?

okay, fine
HELLA COOL!

We've been having trouble with Outlook too. Here at work a lot of us engineers get CAD files sent to us almost every day so the email piles up. When the Outlook database file, or whatever it's called, hits about 3 GB Outlook will crash and stop working. We had to find this out the hard way.

thought about setting up an exchange server with a giant hard drive?
that's how it's done here... works pretty good! i just don't like the client software.

Acutally the max mailbox size limit is 2GB. When the mailbox get larger than 2gb it will currupt the mailbox and you can not open any items. I have a mailbox that every FAX/email we send out to our customers goes in (about 2200 a day). everyday I check it's size and when it gets to 1.7GB I save that mailbox folder and create a new one. All done in outlook.

To a degree. I blame everything from stubbing my toe this morning to crappy software on Microsoft.

j/k :p

Yes, it sounds like 99.9% CtKIE (Chair to Keyboard Interface Error).

oh and the pwned comment, how??

Because everyone knows I hate Microsoft and since I am the big anti-MS guy in the thread and I said nothing bad about them, your comment was out of place and basically, in this instance, idiotic. Just my opinion though, but Im here to nef. :)

obviously i overreacted on the anti ms thing, but i see it quite a bit and you have to admit that if someone posted something like this about linux you'd see a lotta linux guys go off on the poster. a lot more than what we've seen here.

it is a double standard.

Cool! I get to sue someone. Lived in the US all my life and haven't had the chance to do it yet. Go figure! ;) :D

Nah, it was my personal e-mail from college. After college I was upgrading to XP and trying to import it. For some reason, all the e-mail in the "Sent" folder got trashed and trashed hard. Like I said, doesn't really bother me though. Not much mail there that I need or want.

That is a user problem. Microsoft users should flame Microsoft users. Only people you can blame are yourselves ;)

If read the posts, that was actually put there by PlatinumGold who has some 5300 posts, not n0cmonkey who has some 13000 posts.

Anyway about your problem. Are you having trouble connecting to a personal e-mail account or a work related one?

OK, back to the original problem.

What is the name of the mail server that Outlook is trying to connect to?
