Proview 19" LCD 16ms for $214 at Microcenter

Microcenter has the PL193s 19" LCD monitor on sale for 359 with 2 $30 rebates.
Specs are:
450:1 Contrast Ratio
16ms response time
Analog interface
250cd brightness

Normally you can get this for $299AR, but I found one of these monitors on clearance for 324. Clearance items are normally marked down because they have been returned. On top of that, if you sign up for a Microcenter Visa, you get an additional $50 rebate.

To sum up,
$324 - 30 - 30 - 50 = $214 plus taxes (and a $8 recycling fee if you're in CA 🙁)

Not super hot because a bit of luck is involved.

P.S. -- Before some of you start whining "No DVI", I've tried a comparison using the same monitor VGA vs. DVI and I cannot tell the difference, even when gaming. I've talked to several people and the consensus is that you really do not need DVI unless you're hooking up a really large monitor or big screen HDTV.

EDIT: Just a note of warning...I've noticed that the black on this monitor is more of a dark grey. Doesn't bother me too much but some of you out there might be more picky.

That is interesting. When I compared DVI and VGA on my Hitachi 17", I noticed a big difference.

Using DVI, my screen was brighter, and fonts were clearer. However, while viewing videos everything was enhanced and vibrant, I could notice some "jaggies."

Using VGA, while not as vibrant, was definitely more smoothed over albeit a bit dimmer. I am not sure if this is necessarily a bad thing, but DVI is easier on the eyes IMHO.

I think it depends on the monitor. I think monitors that have a DVI input need to use DVI to look good because they are designed for it. Monitors designed for VGA only can look just as good. I had a Viewsonic monitor that had no DVI and it looked just as good as my Dell with DVI.

DVI nessesity depends on the Screen and is more of a "Nice to Have" then a requirement for most.

At under $300 for a 19" with 16ms. I wouldn't be to worried about it.

If I didn't already have 3 matching 17" 16ms displays ... I'd be all over this.

I found that the Analog works as well as the DVI on Samsung LCDs provided you perform the Image Lock fine tuning. Naturally, you must also be using native resolution.

I have this monitor, and i paid well over $400 AR for it. Its pretty damn good, all the specs seem to be undetectable. THe response time, and viewing angles are good enough to watch videos and great for surfing/gaming. All in all $300 is still good deal for a 19" LCD.... FYI: its a rebadged ProView.

tung: yeah recycling fee is refundable, but microcenter charges a 15% restocking fee if you decide to return it anyways

ca recycling fee blows :|

I would never invest in a 19in LCD without DVI. 15in maybe, but as your resolutions get higher and higher and the clarity becomes apparent. Analog on my Dell 1701 is not very pretty, but digital is silky smooth.
