Provide an outlet for public debate over forum moderation.

My suggestion is to somehow allow members to take up issues with the moderators publicly. Since my thread in the moderator discussion is private, nobody else can see it and make valuable comments.

I see this feature as a solution to many social issues on this forum, since I believe a group discussion may benefit progress.

Thank you for running a great forum.

SECONDED!

Such an outlet would also allow the mods to confirm that it isn't just one or two people who feel a certain way about an issue, but in reality could be dozens.

There is no need for this IMHO. It would turn into a nef/scream fest that would resole nothing and only cause more mod headaches.

This. The vast majority sued to be public, but there was almost no content added by non-mods or the OP.

Even though I knew this idea would be shot down, I thought it was worth mentioning, in principle.

It was worth mentioning. But most people forget that there is no such thing as free speech here. This is a privately owned forum, and we have no rights or recourse. The owner or his representative decides what can and can't be said, and who is allowed to post. That's the way it is at every forum.
A forum that's a commercial venture is susceptible to financial pressure, you write the company's that advertise, not the owner. Threatening the money flow will always get attention from the owner.

Hmm, two mods shoot down the idea of increasing moderator accountability. 😉

But no, this is a privately owned forum like Greenman says. There are plenty of other ways to express your views on the internet if you want to and are motivated.

There is a place where moderator issues are commonly discussed, but it's not a very mod friendly sort of place, so the discussions tend to be entirely one sided.

I'd just skip posts by the members that you are so upset about.

You kids have to realize ANY thread with a complaint will have many just added wood to the fire.

Meanwhile the silent masses just ignore it.

Looks to me like that one post was in response to three different threads.
