Germany did declare war, but they never attacked us directly, as Japan did. That's why FDR caught flak for going to war against Germany first. It was an agreement between the Allies and the US that when the US enters the war, Germany would be dealt with first not Japan.

I feel that statement applies to many politicians...Democrats exhibit such qualities quite frequently at the local government level, or have you not read about the corruption in Chicago, Detroit and to a lesser extent Albany as of late?

Socialism also rose out of those same conditions, and look how well that turned out for eastern Europe. If anything, the rise of socialist revolutions throughout Europe after WW1 and the Great Depression are what enabled Hitler's nationalist message to really take root in Germany via Nazi propoganda.
For fascist propoganda to work, the source needs to quiet or shutdown dissenting views. Last I checked, Fox News isn't the only source of information.

Kind of depends on how you define those terms. Is Civil Rights the destruction of "separate but equal" and Jim Crow laws along with extending a helping hand to those who were directly affected by these policies? Or does Civil Rights include the setting up of a racial/ethnic spoils system whereby politicians pander to small groups while accusing anyone questioning their methods and motives of being racists, nativists, or bigots?
In both cases do you define success as equal access to opportunities or is success defined as equal outcomes? Those are really the issues that divide current day "liberals" from "conservatives".

1) Mussolini and Hitler most assuredly worshiped money. And power. Mussolini's government was fascist, who also happened to be a dictator. Also, he invented the alternate term "Corporatism." Hitler was a totalitarian dictator, who adopted some fasist philosophies. Not the same thing.
2) Socialism is a direct response to abuse of the working class in the modern era. World War 2 was guaranteed by the Treaty of Versailles, which we took part in drafting. Also, socialism worked, and does work, great in America after FDR's new deal. How many of you are ready to pay the police out of pocket if you call them to your house? Educate your own child, completely, if public schools are shut down? Let your elderly parents move in with you, or kick them to the streets if SS collapses? Work until your boss lets you leave to go home, not figuratively, but literally? Or requires you to move into the factory before employing you? Pays you in company store credit, instead of real money?
All of the above things were life in America for most Americans before the New Deal, and idiots parrot Neocon talking points about how Unions are a bad thing, that ruined America. How stupid can you be?

Until this January, there was one political party running this country for 8 years, and did everything they can to destroy social programs, and promote business in every way. Republicans gutted what exactly? I seem to remember No child left behind(public education) being enacted under Bush. Also the drug benefit program a huge multi-billion dollar social program. Also he grew govt by 50%.
