i'm running prototype at 1680 on high and 2x AA with my 8800gt. no problems.

havn't played much, but this is okay, so far. controls aren't as fluid as assassins creed. the free-running isn't as cool because all you have to do is hold the right trigger and you can't fall to your death. it's entertaining, though. i think they did a better job with new york than GTAIV in many respects, and the game is pretty polished. i like all the flips and crap you do while running, the illustration of force when you fall ten stories onto a car or something, things like that. i just don't know if it's going to hold my interest. story is weak but well presented.

Simply put, this is the most fun I've had with an action game in forever. I can't believe how much they crammed into this thing. The player options are enormous. Not one crash either, and I think that's commendable.

My main gripe is that the physics don't allow objects to have any feeling of weight to them. While simply walking if you bump into a car it will move like it's being pushed by a bulldozer.

Sorry to hear that. But I dont think an 8800 GT was ever supposed to be good enough for GRID.
I didnt buy it. I got a free copy with my Radeon 4870. No problems with that card.

I also had an 8800 GTX for a while and I can honestly say its far weaker than a Radeon 4870. Not being able to play it well doesnt mean the game was poorly optimized or ported. It just means you dont have enough horsepower. And you cant really compare it to most other games in terms of performance.
I disagree with you. The 8800gt is still a pretty good card. Top of the line? No. But it's still very capable even today. And I'm sorry, if I can play the holy grail of PC Gaming today at a playable framerate, then I'd hope to be able to play GRID. Yes, it was poorly optimized. Every game that I've played recently has played at good framerates, except for GRID. Maybe they've fixed this issue, but I don't feel like going back to it. (Besides, I caved and got rid of my pc copy and got one for the PS3 instead).

Back on topic. my computer ran Prototype really well at 1920x1200 and medium settings. Perhaps I'll try a lower resolution and crank the settings up and see how that works.

No. The 8800 is not a very capable card. Its not even used for testing anymore. Whereas my Radeon 4870 512Meg is still getting better scores than some other cards. If you were having trouble playing GRID it means your card had issues, not the game. Perhaps your drivers would not optimized for it. The game routinely gets much higher frame rates than other titles on the same hardware. The game runs fine. Its your system. And Crysis has not been the Holy Grail of PC gaming for quite some time so again I have to state the two really should not be compated.
And while we are on the subject, why the hell would you play ANY game at medium settings just to crank the resolution up? That destroys most of the eye-candy which is the entire reason for playing games like Prototype.

Sure it is. Until I got my gtx260 last month I was running a 8800gt for all my games at 1680x1050. Some games you set at a mix of medium and high, others all at high, sometimes no AA, occasionally x2 or x4. It's definitely serviceable for the majority of non hardcore gamers out there. GRID ran perfectly btw at max settings w/4xAA.

Its not even used for testing anymore.

When they test low-med cards they use the gts250 which is the same thing.

And Crysis has not been the Holy Grail of PC gaming for quite some time

Whats more demanding than Crysis at max settings with AA?

That destroys most of the eye-candy which is the entire reason for playing games like Prototype.

Prototype is a great fun game, but one thing it definitely is not is eye candy.

So, in your almighty infinite wisdom, it's wise to chuck my 8800gt which plays nearly every game at med to high at 1680x1050 in the trash? Yea ok. I can't believe I'm hearing such ignorance. Is the 8800gt a GTX295? No, but it's not some chump either. The card is 1.5 generations old, and it was a mighty fine and popular card a year ago, and it still does well. I'm not sure why you can't except that, or maybe it's just blind ATI/AMD fanboyism. It doesn't matter if a card is used for testing anymore. Who cares.

Yes, because grid runs poorly and every other game runs well... HEY THE VIDEO CARD SUCKS. Please get a grip. Perhaps it was just a bad nvidia driver or the game needed a patch. I dunno. I just know that it was basically a slideshow.

Admittedly I haven't kept up with the who's who of computer gaming the past few months, but, please name me some games that physically stress a system out more than Crysis. Please, enlighten me. I will continue to compare games to crysis. Why? Crysis is an incredibly demanding game, and if I can play that at a respectable framerate, I'd expect to play any game at a respectable framerate, provided they're coded well.

Why gee... oh I dunno. Perhaps I like running games at the native resolution of my monitor? I don't crank the settings all the way up on my initial play. I will lower the resolution the second time around if I feel the system is capable.

But by your astounding logic, it's infinitely better to play the game at 640x480 with everything at high than at 1920x1200 with everything at medium. Ignorance at its finest.

alright, i'm at best halfway through this game and i give up. whoever wrote the story missions needs a swift kick in the dick. past about the first three missions, every mission is basically the same- run around in a giant clusterfuck of tanks, helicopters, and dumbass hulk-monsters trying to accomplish some stupid objective (my favorite- steal a tank and somehow get back into stealth mode before the tank is destroyed. it's as impossible as it sounds.).

the best part? they take all your powers away. again.

kudos to whoever designed the framework of this game and a big 'fuck you' to the retards that ruined it.

I played GRID on a 9600GT and E7200 at 1680x1050 perfectly. Smooth as butter with great detail. I find it hard to believe an 8800GTX struggled with GRID.

So far, not a bad game, it's like GTA4 but your guy on steroids. Having real fun throwing people and cars all over the place, did a few missions, but mostly I have just messed around to try and gain more points to upgrade all my abilities. Glide is the most important thing for anybody starting the game, soon as you have the points upgrade. Nothing like going to the tallest building and gliding across the city. Love the claws, slicing people up like freddy krueger is a blast.

The controls are not that bad, I had a hard time getting to some of the really high blue orbs that are on top of the points of some of the really high buildings. Once you upgrade some of your movements, they are much easier.

Throwing crap around is pretty cool - but the novelty seems to wear off pretty fast. :(

I'll have to pick up Glide as the mission points are VERY FAR away from each other [I wonder if the same person who designed the missions in FarCry2 also designed the missions in this game as well]. I may have to end up using a controller as I'm having problems in the warehouse where you first get the claws [have to kill off a few of the mutant monsters].

One thing that keeps me interested is looking for the people to consume each mission. The storyline is pretty decent if you seek everyone out. I do recommend a controller as some of the later missions can be pretty tough with the key combos. I have about half the powers now and have taken out 3 military bases in the city, letting the virus grow and take over. I like to play stealth around the bases and try to take them out without setting off the alarms.
The whip is a lot of fun too.

So far I haven't had even one technical issue with the game, which is pretty amazing for a pc console port.

once you can hijack helicopters, this ceases to be a challenge, you can just bombard them from above and they last 10 seconds before collapsing. The helis are still a ton of fun to fly around in and when they destruct you can just bail and use the whip to latch on to another chopper ala Just Cause.

I've been entering the inside of bases, stealth absorbing the military who enhance your techniques, then going double or triple Devastator on the rest of them, and after wiping em all out to the last man, morphing into a soldier and waltzing out of the base.

I do the exact same thing.

The bases (both infected and military) rebuild very quickly so it isn't much fun. I would've liked to be able to morph into a soldier and receive various orders, such as defending a base against a horde of infected, cleansing areas, etc. After beating the game there's not much left as the city is quite plain, IMO.

Well, I just beat the game and WOW. Story line I thought was excellent if you put the time into gathering those whose minds need some smashing then reading. And although I understand what a lot of you are talking about with the repetitiveness of it, that really wasn't a problem for me...granted it was the same shit, but it just never felt repetitive...I thoroughly enjoyed this game! This was actually the first game that Ive beat in months...we're talking since Fallout 3 in January.

I also NEVER ONCE experienced any technical issues...game never froze, never shut down, nothing...and I had it running constantly, never exited the game, would just Alt-Tab for like 2 weeks LOL!

SOLID GAME HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

I'm loving this game. At first I thought I'd buy it and keep it on the backburner while I finished Dark Athena, Mass Effect, and Last Remnant, but everything else ended up taking a back seat to Prototype. The action is definitely a bit repetitive, but that's alleviated a lot by the constant acquisition of powers and how they change the game. I'm not very far into the storyline and the web of intrigue, but it's good enough to have me constantly looking for people to consume to progress it. They really did a good job of making Mercer feel overwhelmingly powerful as a playable character; moreso than any other game of this type that I've played. That just makes the game a blast to play.

Definite  from me.

Favorite part of the game is jumping from roof to roof, timing my airdashes so that I hit the next roof in full sprint instead of coming down hard. It just works so absolutely nice. That and the glide missions, I wish there had been more of those.

This game sucks. It's boring and very repetitive. You cannot chain cool combos or anything. The graphics are lacking too.

this game is loads of fun. The city looks great and so does the action. The story line is so so, but its not the worst. And the non stop action is very ADD friendly.

Oh yeah, this thing is highly addictive. Your character certainly feels very powerful in combat and also move fluidly.

Graphics is a bit lacking, sadly. Especially the poor view distance is a huge PITA.

BTW, anyone figure out a way to successfully infiltrate bases in late game under a time limit? The consume mission which require you to infiltrate in 3 min seems wacky when there's half a dozen overlapping detectors lying around.

Without a timer, I can pick off the detectors at extreme range with missiles.

Looked stupid to me. I imagine a game like GTA... but with cheat codes built in.. Wooo..

I thought GTAIV (and also GTAIII) was so boring, maybe Prototype will do it for me, I'd like a demo of it, but it looks fun from what I've seen.

The only irritating thing about the GTA games is that it takes too long to get somewhere.

One of the great things about Prototype is that you get transportation powers, making down-time between missions a lot shorter and less boring.

I thought this game was kind of bad in comparison to another superhero game that was released recently. :] But it wasn't released for PC so I guess Prototype will do.

Just beat it, the plot was surprisingly satisfying, overall a damned good game - very polished, but with an aging engine and (at times, if you fall into the trap of using the same moves over and over) occasionally repetitive.
