Looks like the assumptions caused by a lack of reviews were warranted.

Prototype is currently pulling an 82 (Xbox 360) and 86 (PS3) on metacritic.

The one thing I know the game is lacking....a demo. ;)

That's what I'm waiting for. Might rent it if I get more free rental coupons from blockbuster.

Not to crap on this game, but I think it's worth noting--I came home and felt me feelings determine what to play and Red Faction won over.

Prototype is now on the backburner until I beat this game.

Worth noting because the game is that poor, or RF is that fun?

Red Faction is definitely a good time. I just unlocked th superhammer, and that opened things up even more.

Prototype looked so much like Hulk:UD from the gameplay trailers, that it almost feels like I've played it already. UFC and Infamous are still ahead of it on my list, but I'll rent it if it is the only one in.

It's most likely a combination of both.

P.S. - I sounded like a pirate in my original post and will absolutely not edit it. :p

this feels like a thread hijack at this point but red faction single player and multiplayer is so awesome.

jetpacks + rocketlaunchers = awesome
stealthpack + hammer = awesome

Basically what ARS Technica said. If you don't have a PS3, then it might be worth your time, but it's 2nd rate compared to inFamous in their opinion.

Red Faction is just too repetitive. Same missions over and over. Go rescue X, escort X to A,B,C, repeat.

Got bored with it after about 2 hours.

Opposing view:

"If I had to weigh down on one side, I'd go with Prototype. Though it's very close. While inFamous is good, there's a lack of scale and ambition that holds it back. The electric powers are underused and don't offer the same level of sheer madness and experimentation that Prototype can deliver."

The sheer mayhem involved in Prototype is like nothing else I've experienced. The closest I've come is in GTA where you pull out your rocket launcher and start blowing up stuff until the cops and fbi and choppers show up, and then you start killing them too, so more show up, etc. Now, picture that, except you have dozens and dozens of unique and exciting body morphing melee attacks and you move incredibly quickly through the air or over ground as you rain down hellish destruction on military and civilian alike. It's pretty exhilirating. And while the GTA scenario invariably ends with your death, in Prototype you can actually kill everyone and survive. Standing on a street corner after such a battle with the remains of a building, flaming tanks, destroyed cars, downed choppers, and dozens of bodies lying eveverywhere in pieces continues to put a grin on my face. I'll probably get bored in a couple weeks or so, but while it lasts, this is the most fun I've had in a long, long time.

Finally got to rent this game, and after a few solid hours I think it's a pretty good time. I'm not sure how much replay value it'll have, as most of the fun comes from getting new powers and upgrading your movement skills... then causing even more hell than before. Once you get maxed out though I'm not sure I'd want to start it over again on a harder difficulty for shits and giggles, and there's only so much fun to be had dicking around once you're maxed from what it looks like.

A very solid game IMO, but probably not a $60 game. I like it enough that I'm bummed I only have it for the rental period, but not enough to pay top dollar for it. I'm hoping to see it hit $30-40 fairly soon.

I beat the game twice and got the platinum trophy. It's way more fun than I thought it would be, but definitely a rental, not a buy. I enjoyed it quite a bit but have no desire to ever play it again.

For the record: FUCK the platinum events. Hardest thing I've done in any game in the last decade at least.

I've had it for about a month. At first I loved it.. then got to a point where I was kinda stalled, not really having much fun. Then picked it back up and really started getting the achievements now, and getting more powers. Im on easy, and at one point they take your powers away which SUCKED!! Then you get them back, and really get some more cool stuff.

It is DEFINATLY a renter,.. possibly a buyer. I got mine through trading on Goozex, but plan on keeping this one for a while. Its something I would keep going back to I think. Just to bad there is no multiplayer, or this game could of really been one of the greatest.

Fun for the first couple hours as you feel like an awesome bastard, then the novelty wears off leaving the rather weak and ugly game underneath. As has been said, definitely rent, especially since it's still retailing for 40+ dollars.

I've got it from gamefly and think it's a lot of fun. I wouldn't buy it, but definitely worth playing.

sorry to do thread necromancy, but didn't think my comments warranted a new thread:

first 2 hours of the game left me full of "meh" but once I got the ability to get into some vehicles and stealth consume people the game got MUCH more fun. I love the idea of EP buying stuff you want, when you want, kind of like God of War. I normally HATE open world games like GTA, and hate having to learn a map/city, but with the glide ability and the ability to just sprint in a straight line to an objective, it helps a lot.

Instead of re-creating a new thread,im gonna post in this one :)

games been out for months,
i picked it up for $25 new and played it over this weekend. I think the game is very good. I'm very wishy washy when it comes to the console/pc area. one minute im a console person the next im a PC person.

I however have been playing this on the 360.
I noticed it has a very high level of detail in the city.they even had ads for game crazy, hollywood video and gamestop that were very noticeable. if you stand ontop of a tall building and look out into the city, it actually looks like a city,
Now i havent played infamous, and i will eventually, its on my list.
the "mini-games" if thats there called(i think events actually) are kinda cool. kind of forced me to run to other parts of the city where the game was taking me, but all in good fun. At least the game waits for me and doesnt progress on its own unless it tells you otherwise

Like someone else said, fighting is cumbersome(my words) there are alot of different ways they allow you to fight. also, they give you everything right away and then just take it away.

i think its shaping up to be a good game.id say probaly like an 8.5/10 if i had to give it a score for now
