As someone whose fiancée is not only South African, but was directly affected by this rioting (she lost decades of family heirlooms in storage)... just be quiet about this. Please. You don't have an inkling of the politics behind it and the factors involved.
This isn't really a racism issue, even if the rioting stoked some existing resentment of white farmers — I've seen numerous instances of black and white people working together to protect property and restore communities. From what I've gathered, it's more a factional and tribal issue... Zuma supporters versus everyone else, Zulu versus Xhosa. That and a knock-on effect where poverty in townships pressures people to loot (if you're desperate for food and supplies and your neighbors ransacked the local store, you might join them).
There are also signs that political extremists, like Julius Milema and his EFF party, may have helped instigate the rioting.
Remember, it's notable that much of the rioting is in Zuma's home province of KwaZulu-Natal (where Durban is the largest city). Go to places like Cape Town and you won't find this happening. This is targeted and partisan, and it's important to consider that reality before reaching conclusions.
