This sucks. I flip by Fox and they saying Biden Admin is silent on this. What this? When? I flip over the CNN, MSNBC and they are talking about this. I watch the frigging news every frigging day, was everyone asleep at the wheel? Just more political BS to stir the pot about.

FOX only covered it because one time Bernie Sanders made a lukewarm comment about Cuba and now there are protests so clearly Bernie is wrong and socialism is the devil.

Every news outlet - Covering historic Cuba protests
FoxNews and their special needs offspring OAN - "Why is the MSM ignoring....blah fucking blah? Lets have a bunch of idiots ask each other ridiculous questions based on false premises that have little to do with the Cuba protest and instead try and create a narrative that includes the word Biden or Democrats in it a bunch of time to excite viewers"

You have to remember that FoxNews is not a news channel and they don't do "Journalism". They are an entertainment brand.
You might as well watch cartoons or get your plumber drunk and ask him what he thinks about it.

No doubt, I put down the cable news pipe years ago and my stress levels are better for it. Even Fox has some decently-written articles (though their site tends to hide certain stories way down the page :D )

Cable "news" is ALL entertainment. It has the same goals as any other shows on TV: to make money from ads, which means keeping viewers tuned in. Everything is always "breaking news" and urgent with eagles and flags and fancy colors probably chosen because focus groups showed they'd stay tuned in longer ;-) News is a byproduct, if you are lucky.

Fox just takes crappy non-news and pushes it into the propaganda realm. CNN and the rest of them would happily run a story (with pics and vid!) of Bernie Sanders protesting nude on Wall Street--in other words, they are equal-opportunity tabloids--while Fox goes the extra mile to cover up anything negative for their team.

As far as Cuba goes--who cares. Just another country, if they want to protest big whoop.

if you "watch" the news, you are mostly being force fed corporate propaganda.

If you "read" the news, you have a higher probability of actual journalism being included.

Editorial and editorial disguised as "Expert analysis" has turned created a generation of middle aged idiots.
If what you read is editorial you are just as screwed as watching cable news channels

That is true. If you read phrases like "some people say" you know you are not reading a sourced article.

I think it's one reason my mom's generation (boomers) believes so much conspiracy nonsense on social media. It's written down, and well-written, so it must be true.

The really gross part is that so much of the fake news (written or otherwise) is simply done by people who don't believe a word of it themselves. It's all just either trolling or a way to make money from people clicking in (or both). Look at how the utter nonsense Q-anon junk got started. I have a coworker making good money as a data engineer no less who believes that garbage. Even on cable news or AM radio--for all we know shitheads like Tucker Carlson believe the exact opposite of their schtick, but money talks (though it's dangerous and bad whether they do or they don't.)

For the non readers who just want stuff in the background, most people can stay informed just fine with regular local news and stuff like World News tonight which tends to be a straightforward recap.
30 minutes to an hour for local news sports\weather\local news. Kittens stuck in a tree, a 3 alarm fire, its going to rain on Friday and your shitty team lost with highlight real. Then while you cleaning up dinner find out what country invades who, what state is on fire and what is the COVID infection rate in the Philippines.

Yes, that is true, a lot of print media has also been co-opted, compromised, and/or otherwise corrupted.

The funniest part of this statement is that the people that told us as kids/teens in the 90's and early 00's to "not believe everything you see on the Internet" are themselves believing everything they see on the Internet.

Biden did make a statement supporting the people of Cuba

President Joe Biden on Monday expressed solidarity with protesters in Cuba, where thousands of people rallied against food shortages and high prices amid the coronavirus pandemic over the weekend.

“We stand with the Cuban people and their clarion call for freedom and relief from the tragic grip of the pandemic and from the decades of repression and economic suffering to which they have been subjected by Cuba’s authoritarian regime,” Biden said in a statement released by the White House.

“The Cuban people are bravely asserting fundamental and universal rights,” he continued. “Those rights, including the right of peaceful protest and the right to freely determine their own future, must be respected. The United States calls on the Cuban regime to hear their people and serve their needs at this vital moment rather than enriching themselves.”

The show of support from the American president comes after masses of protesters marched on the Malecon promenade in the capital city of Havana on Sunday, as well as elsewhere across the island.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tweeted on Monday that the protests were “an act of great courage,” adding: “I support the Cuban people in their pursuit of liberty and condemn any violence or targeting of those exercising their rights.”

We stand with the Cuban people apart from selling them food or supplies they might need, we kind of stand by them in a theoretical sense rather than a material one. Hopefully our theoretical support will fill their bellies.

It was a shit take on his part. I also suspect he opposed Obama's moves on this issue.

Perhaps there are Good Political reasons(like preventing another Republican Presidency)to take this stance that I am unaware of. However, as a USA v Cuba Foreign Policy issue is concerned, the USA has become the Bad Guy and should Stop. This feigning of support for the Cuban people is offensive.
