ROTFL. Seriously just stop. o_O

Not only is this wildly inaccurate but continuing to say it over and over is counter-productive at best. Either embrace the mass douche-baggery of the mainly GOP-led southern states voters -OR- come to grips with idiots IN YOUR STATE and do something to change it.

Nearly everyone in CT at least is masked up everywhere never mind in a hospital and although there are at least few a$$hole's anywhere you go/look, in the Northeast they are few and far between far as Covid goes.

Can't say the same about the South apparently based on the numbers
rather then bruised feelings or moronic politics.

But the strip clubs!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to hear that, OP.

I've been fortunate in that I'm an introvert so I've been able to deal with things fairly well. I know a lot of people that haven't though.

I've been lucky that my work has mandated masks the entire time with no exceptions and its enforced by security. They somewhat recently announced they are going to require vaccination proof to keep working there. Unfortunately quite a few of my co-workers are anti-vaxxers apparently and I'm concerned it might actually jeopardize our contract, so we'll see how that goes.

Stop what? I was just commenting what I'm seeing down here in Atlanta and my experience during visits to hospitals and medical offices. Like I mentioned, I've been to hospitals many times last week and this week. And I've another specialist appointment this week as well. I've taken my wife, daughter, mom. and me to various medical checkups and procedures. And every time and every visit, the rules are crystal clear. Everyone need masks to enter and must remain masked up while inside the hospitals and medical buildings. No exception. And people follow it from what I've seen. CDC never lifted mask requirement for hospitals, mass transit, and airports. So I don't know why you think I must be lying or something. I was just expressing my surprise Geekbabe has to deal with people refusing to use mask inside the hospital. We don't have any vaccine card exemptions here. It doesn't matter if your vaccinated or not at hospital setting. You have to wear a mask. It sounds like you guys can use vaccine card at hospital which is ridiculous, IMO. It would be similar to allowing vaccinated people not to wear mask at airport and airplanes. It's just not done right now. So why are they doing that up North in hospitals? That sounds like dumb idea and begging for hostile mask confrontation like Geekbabe is describing having to do at her job.

Seriously, lot of you guys have some fucked up impressions of the South. Based on what I've read here, I know most of you don't leave your house and basically never travel outside your city, let alone state. Maybe you guys are watching too many TV shows or movies, CNN, MSNBC trash and that's giving you lot of false impressions. I can't explain it because not only is it sad, it's pretty comical as well. At first, I thought people can't be this gullible and dumb but now I realize it's not an act and people are really that dumb and gullible. When I went to college at Northwestern and lived near Chicago for 4 years, people used to joke and tease me about growing up in Georgia. It was all in good fun, and I teased them back. But there was always mutual respect, and we all learned from our interactions. I feel like there's no learning here; everyday I feel dumber for coming here.

Geekbabe, I'm sorry about my off topic response here. It seems some people get trigged at anything I say that might disagree with their hilariously narrow and bigoted/racist view of the world. I might always be right, but I generally try to keep it respectful. And if I'm wrong, I'm not afraid to say I was wrong and apologize. It's ok to wrong. We're not perfect. But majority of you can't say or admit it which is sad. This will be my last reply In this thread.

If people protest mask wearing outside clinics where cancer patients go, there is no hope for them to ever. The only hope it's a security looking person that might beat them up if they step out of line.

Here’s the thing, I don’t care where people are from, I just want to try to ensure that nobody gets sick.

People come to hospital because they are sick or injured or they are visiting a loved one who is, tensions are high, tempers can flare easily. A gentle reminder to please make sure your mask covers your nose because we care about your health can be perceived as a directive or order by someone who is already upset.

I walk a tightrope making sure protocol is followed while not upsetting people even more, I am a receptionist not a cop.My role is to smooth over conflict, not create more of it. Given the current situation that’s easier said than done.

Btw, most people get it when I explain the rationale behind the rules, most comply, most are gracious…..but the ones who aren’t are giving me nightmares & that has nothing to do with where they are from or who they voted for. This thread is about safe guarding our mental health , it’s not political.

I've travelled extensively including all over the American South. My "impressions" are based on this along with the words/actions of the people running things in Southern states in the last 16 months or so.

I see eye to eye with you about a lot of things but I have to say defending the overall political situation in the Southern US at this point just isn't a good look.

Also I wasn't aware "Southern" was now a race? ;)

Completely agreed.... sorry for getting side-tracked. :)

We need to clone this guy and put him at the entrance of anyplace that treats medical patients so he can deal with people that refuse or object to wearing a mask when inside

We have signs on the front door regarding mask requirements and on the plexiplastic shield on my desk. Many people don’t read them, they walk in without a mask talking away, sometimes we see small groups of people without masks, they have to be quickly given masks. Meantime I am sitting there wondering if any of them are carrying the Delta variant and have exposed the entire lobby…..sigh 😢

I went by our favorite dispensary today and was dismayed to see they took down their plexi barriers and none of the staff was masked. It grated on me till I finally just called and spoke to the manager about it.
it was a good convo, and I made sure that he knew we were concerned about their safety above all.
That plexi is the bomb when it comes to protection. It bolsters every other measure.

I can't even imagine walking into a hospital without a mask on. I would think at this point requiring masks in hospitals will be permanent.

The covid stuff must be getting to me as I get dreams that it somehow is over and done or no longer a thing. Had one where I actually went into a weed shop... which I rarely do IRL, and I noticed I forgot my mask and I was like "oh crap" but then I noticed nobody else was wearing one so I'm like "wait, maybe we're not doing the covid stuff anymore? Hope they don't get in trouble for letting this many people in". I also had to go to the bathroom in the dream so was sitting in a stall and thinking "what if health unit shows up maybe we'll all get fined!" and just started to worry about stuff like that. I then ended up going to buy CBD oil and got out.

Had another similar dream but it was in some other type of public building, don't even remember details, but same deal, I had forgot my mask but then noticed other people were not wearing one either.

I think the best thing for my mental health will be once I build my offgrid homestead and manage to be able to live there year round and be more self sufficient and just get away from all this craziness. Especially with the ID app we need to carry everywhere after Oct 22, it just feels too dystopian to me that this is where the world is heading to.

Red's in Canada though.....offgrid in Canada just means he's tired of rural Canadian city life.

Don't worry....There's nothing up there worth bombing anyways.

I'm not really in a rural area though, but the property I bought is in one. Reality is there is not much getting away from all this government overreach stuff though. Still going to want to be able to buy stuff like parts, tools etc even off grid which means having to submit to this new ID system and all the tracking that will come with it.

Big cities of 1M plus are not the only kind of cities you know. Rural would indicate mostly farm land or bush properties etc and mostly gravel roads. Not full subdivisions with buildings, schools, paved roads etc. We do have some rural AREAs but not the entire city is considered rural.

Big city people are funny like that though, they think anything that is not full of sky scrapers is in middle of nowhere.

Markham is 343k and I don't think it should count as a city. I can still see cows like 4km from my house (still part of Markham).

You'd probably be better off if you just quit filling your brain with shit, IE, whatever sources you're following that are feeding you your conspiracy nonsense.

I have started sincerely thanking visitors and patients who take the time to comply with the rules. I also acknowledge that all this is becoming draining on every one but our goal is to try to keep eveybody as safe as we can. This has led to some nice discussions. Nice people also seem visibly shocked by folks who act out. I had one guy tell a woman that yes, she did have “ choices” she could mask, show her vaccination card and visit or she could leave & facetime her relative but that verbally abusing the desk staff wasn’t on the menu.

Amazingly it actually worked, the woman left quietly ♥️
