Well, my son isn't talking yet and he's under 3 years of age. Its hard to make sure that he doesn't touch things....and watching him every second of the day to make sure he isn't going to do something is not practical...or parenting.

Thanks for being a smartass though

My little girl from age 3 and up has learned quick to never... and I emphasize, NEVER mess with my stuff. Raised my voice very very loud, gave her the look and that was that. She was just about to break down in tears, but thats when I sat her down on my lap and explained to her that those things were off limits, especially when I was not around. She learned to ask permission since then to touch the TV and DVD Player.

You gotta make them respect your stuff at a young age and to respect you, before they get outta hand and bigger than you...

O man... Just buy a cabnit with hydralic door openers. My parents did that when I was a baby, and I was THE worst kid for getting into everything...

I use those big semi-industrial shelves from Menards. The bottom shelf has toys on it. The 2nd shelf has the LCD TV. The 3rd shelf has the center channel and UPS. The top shelf has the HTPC and receiver on it.

I use some 48"ish tall Klipsch tower speakers for the front. There's no way my son could knock those over if he tried. The rear speakers are on top of another small shelving unit.

So far, so good. I find buttons are the biggest temptation for my 16 month old son. If I keep those out of reach or covered, everything is ok. He also loves it if the desktop background on the HTPC is a picture of him! 🙂
