Protecting Folders with Password

I have a small network of about 10 computers.
We are all on Windows 7 and share our files through a NAS.
To get into NAS, everyone goes through an authentication service embedded to the NAS.
However, I want to put a "password lock" on certain folders so that only certain people have access. Is this possible? I guess I can buy another NAS that has this possibility if need be. Is there a NAS that has this capability built in?

Thank you.

You don't password protect directories, you give rights to them. Any decent NAS should let you specify which users have access to which shares and directories.

Are you saying that yours doesn't support any form of security? What kind is it?

The NAS is called Goflex_home.

It allows me to create users and create password for the root access, but there is no way to put any more access restrictions thereafter.

Can you recommend a NAS with more capability?

Thank you.

Synology makes some good products for small businesses.

DS211 (Workgroups and Offices)

DS211j (Small Office and Home Use)
http://www.synology.com/enu/products/DS211j/index.php

The main difference between the two above is the # of IP cameras they support (5 vs 8) and the number of shared folders (128 vs 256).

Do you NEED a separate NAS setup?

Do you not have a DC?

Even if not, you should be able to host the storage on a "server" system. You can then add permissions based off of the user who tries to access them....

What you need to do is on page 9 of the user guide.
When you create your own user account and password during setup, GoFlex Home
automatically creates three folders on the drive for you:
• A Public folder, where files can be stored and accessed by everyone on your home
network.
• A Personal folder that only you can access, where you can store personal or private files
that you don’t want anyone else on your home network to see.
• A Backup folder that only you can access, where all your backup files are stored.
