Hello everyone, the prosper thread we had a while back got me using prosper, it was an easy way to fund some of my side projects, and I really enjoy it!

So it took a while to have it approved and setup, but I started a group for members of this and other like minded forums if anyone would care to join.

It's called Invest in Tech

http://www.prosper.com/groups/...up_short_name=ITInvest

Is the link to the group profile if you'd like to join.

I believe we can take the same great spirit that makes this the best forum online and bring it out in the Prosper community.

Any Feedback, comments, or requests for an invitation to the group (accompanied by your e-mail) if you have any issues with the profile page can be posted here, and are appreciated.

Please Include your Forum Name with your Request. If you are from a non-AT forum your request will be expedited if you have HEATware.

This is just a group to help further each other's amibitions, whether you want to borrow or loan is up to you, just be responsible,

I am keeping a list of AT Names and Prosper Names to calculate risk profiles to keep our default rates low, and our name good.

Decided after talking with a few members that if you know any good TFNN, HARDForum, ARSTechnica, you know our major overlaps, they can join as well.

Also just wanted to thank you all for the great turn out so far, and I hope we keep growing steady, while keeping such a quality of members.

For those like me wondering "WTF is Prosper", it is a "people-to-people lending marketplace".

There was a thread a while back about someone trying it and their thoughts, did it ever get updated?

I'd be interested in giving it a try and can maybe contribute 2-3 hundred.

Edit: Do we have a specific type of category/industry of investments we'd like to target or are we just looking at anything? Will we be able to discuss investment chances on this site privately just among us?

Idea - If people aren't already "sniping", we need to do that.

Well we have a lot of lee-way, as long as overall the group's borrowers don't default we can still keep a high group rating, showing that we are very reliable, meaning that as a whole we are more trusted if we need to borrow money.

This allows us to get MUCH lower interest rate.

One of the big advantages to that is that you can borrow money low, and lend high to make high profits.

Frankly, I don't loan out money as much on Prosper, but I do borrow money and use it on other short-term investments, so I'm really looking forward to watching this group grow.

I think the reason someone hasn't started one yet is the downside is that group leaders can't join their own groups, so they don't get all the benefits (WTF?) but it's not a huge deal.

no really "Private Message Board" area or anything, but we can Message each other through their mail system.

The old thread is:

For those of you just starting with us. =)

Is this a group for borrowers? How will you verify information and keep the group with low default rates. Unless you ween out members and show trust w/ posts counts I don't know how you will make the group successful. I am currently a lender on prosper w/ no defaults on any of my loans. So I'm interested in this but I would like to know how you would keep stuff like that straight. Thanks brotha.

Would this be akin to an ATOT credit union?

This seems like an interesting concept. I'm willing to be a small lender to start... But I'd guess a lot of AT users are looking to be lenders and not borrowers.

TruePaige - You just confused me. Is the purpose to loan money to others so that we can become credible and get loans at lower rates? Why are we going for loans?

My intention was that I'd be interested in doing this if I could show decent returns and do it a little consistently.

Ah ha, didn't know it was for other AT'ers to get loans.

I guess that makes sense, but ask the same question as you of how many people here want to borrow.

I thought the OP's concept was to create a group of AT'ers which could borrow or loan to each other. Maybe I'm wrong.

I joined! :) I may be asking to borrow some money so if ATOters join... I'd be glad to do an inter-group loan!

I feel like the group is a bit misleading. An "AnandTech" group should be created, period. Groups are more for borrowing status, not lending...

I'm looking to get my debt off my 8.9% fixed credit card. I'd be willing to go up to 9.9% if anyone would bid on that loan. You'd make 9.9% on your return, but I'm guaranteed to pay you back.... never missed a payment in my life.

Why would you want to pay an extra 1% if you got a fix 8.9% ?

Soo... What's our lending strategy? Knowing ATOT, it will be to lend to college girls with the hottest profile pictures :)

Added some information to the main post, and some criteria for your request.

Guys, this is just to further all our goals, we aren't just lenders or just borrowers, we are a community. =)

It's SSSnail still, and I'll be lending. I got Guido with the baseball bat ready if people don't pay up.
