On sale would be better, true, $200 is a little high for what you get. There's a glut of old 20-120GB hard drives people are unloading for cheap on kijiji that you can swap in no problem, or even use a 16GB USB key if you have one kicking around. Mainly to install games on to speed things up and keep it quiet.
But the 4GB system is perfectly fine otherwise.

IIRC, they support 32gb USB keys now. 4GB is fine for saves but not a lot of room if you want to play XBLA games.

This is true, you can use a USB HDD or memory stick up to 32GB. USb is slower than the SATA interface the system uses though so when loading or installing games it will take a bit longer.

However for $250 they sell a Xbox with 250GB HDD that comes with Skyrim(download code) and Forza 4 Essentials edition a month of Xbox live and Hulu plus.
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-250G...=UTF8&qid=1354051024&sr=8-6&keywords=xbox+360

Amazon is doing a promo for $269 that comes with 3+1 months Xbox Live Gold, a $10 amazon video credit, 5 arcade games(Acqua, Load Runner, R Type, Snoopy, and The Maw) , as well as the Skyrim and Forza game.
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Holi...=UTF8&qid=1354051024&sr=8-8&keywords=xbox+360

So no $200 for the 4GB basic system is not worth it.

Pros: Cheaper
Cons: No BC, no coop on Halo ODST and Reach, and no Halo 4 multiplayer (8GB USB drive can fix that one)

Not when you should be able to find a used Slim Xbox 360 for the same price or a little more. I don't consider the 4GB SKU viable because buying the Xbox hard drive (and lets face it, at some point you will need a hard drive) costs too much if you want an official one.

FALSE. The Jasper revision brought the failure rate down to normal. It's a small computer so (just like a PS3) there will still be some failures.

Back on topic, I'd hate having a 4 GB because the $10 DVD drive on my Elite is loud and needs to spin all the time for games that are not installed to the hard drive.

If you get an xbox with hard drive you can install the games there and then the DVD drive just does a disc check at startup. This also saves wear and tear on the drive and the discs.

Just pay a little extra to get a better model. It'll be worth it :)

I have a jasper 360. I guess it must be just right on 3 years old now, bought just as they were coming online. No issues yet. My first gen Xbox original lasted a year before the drive become worthless.

It's well known that the first generation of 360's sucked reliability wise. I sold my launch one three years ago before it bit the dust and earlier this year picked up a 250gb Slim and they are infinitely better now.

lol F me. After stating this I literally honest to goodness was unwrapping Halo 4 that came tonight and as I was opening it up I booted up my xbox by hitting eject..and heard a noise. The noise of the drive that won't open. None of the easy fixes online work for it, so i basically had to pry the thing open. It's functioning but I foresee a future of its drive being a bastard on me. The thing hasn't actually received all that much heavy use over the past few years either

Their generations were shorter, too. Xbox/ps3 still are the most powerful consoles out there right now.

Yeah the price hasn't dropped much in the last few years, maybe even at all except BF stuff. The laughable thing is that its tech ISN'T laughable compared to the 2012 Wii U. Although it is still 7 years old!

This. The brand new WiiU is running ported games that look the same as the ones on 7 yeard old consoles. Anyone thinking the WiiU is way more powerful than the 360/PS3 is high or just really dumb.

Not really. Aside from the remote video display to the controller, it's slow. It has a comparable GPU but weak CPU:
http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2012/11/why-you-cant-read-too-much-into-the-wii-us-slow-clock-speed/

The reviews I've seen say the graphics are as good (not really better) and the framerate drops noticeably for some:
"the inconsistent performance is jarring after coming from the beauty of the PC version or the rock-solid frame rate of the 360 version."
http://penny-arcade.com/report/edit...ood-gamepad-the-bad-framerate-the-weird-where

... yes it's a launch title, but if the Wii U was much more powerful than the 360 I'd expect the launch title to be as good not worse. Right now it's looking like maybe next year's titles will be a little better on Wii U than 360, but not twice as good.

I thought this too until my launch PS3 died. All the older models suffer the same issue due to poor thermal management. The newer models run a lot cooler and are far more reliable.

4GB is restrictive. I had a 20G until it red ringed and felt like it wasn't enough. I thought 250gb was too much until I bought it and it's perfect. No one uses 250gb but you can download any games with a 4gb or movies.

I used to say the exact same thing in this very forum until a couple of years ago. I have had 3 or 4 of them break on me. Piece of plastic shit.

I also lost a launch 60gb fatty PS3, which really pissed me off. Oh well.
