I'd guess changing the wireless channel to one that fewer people are also using results in less radio interference. It's tantamount to changing the channel on a cordless phone if the call becomes staticky. His router is no longer fighting with one or more other wireless routers in the immediate neighborhood. (As a side effect, I'm sure his neighbors' speeds also went up when he changed the channel.)

I'm hoping to get my 6000/608 service from SBC soon!

I'm only 2700 feet from the CO. :D

Jeez, i thought I was happy with my 1300 down, 256 up. I tried to get the 6000/608 from SBC, but I'm 9000 feet away.

First I changed the router channel, then did a firmware upgrade to it

Hey WinstonSmith, are you using the Modem that Comcast provides you when you sign up for it? When I signed up for it, they gave me that Home Installation Kit and gave me a Terayan TJ715 modem. My question is, they also give you a CD for the modem to install drivers but I dunno if installing will make my connection any faster. I just plugged the modem in my computer and the it works fine but will installing the drivers make my connection speed as fast as yours?

Wow. You guys suck. I wish that I could get speeds like that! I'm stuck here on qwest's blistering-fast dsl 640k. :frown:

I have heard that if I am close enough, I might be able to get up to 1.5 in the next few months. Yipiee.

Yep. I don't know what model it is, but all I had to do was power off the modem for about 30 seconds after the upgrade, and it came up that fast. Or, at least on the desktop. The problem I had was not with the modem, but with how my wireless router was configured.

You shouldnt need to do anything other than uplug your modem for half a minute to get full bandwidth on your desktop.

Nice man. I also upgraded to the new plan (2/02) and am awaiting the boost. I live 3775 ft from my CO.

If you follow the dslreport forums, many people are reporting that their upload speeds relfect the new plan but the download remains the same. So I guess if you notice an increase in upload you should have the new download speeds pretty soon

You only need the drivers if you hook up the modem via USB, which you should only do if you really have to IMO (because USB's slow and has high CPU utilization).

If by "close enough" you mean to a real woman, and by "1.5" you mean inches, then yes, I agree you should be able to attain that goal...
