I was pretty unhappy that I was getting only about 1/3 the rated speed of my connection through my Dell 8500. Comcast says it's 3 mbps. I was getting 900 kbps on the lappy

What'd you do?

Did two things, and they were both simple.

First I changed the router channel, then did a firmware upgrade to it

Voila!

Comcast and I THINK it's 40 a month. It might be a little more (not much). I am uncertain because my local phone, cable and internet are all part of a package.

Not bad. I like my 7Mbps up AND down though here at school. It's really 10mbps capped but that's for this particular dorm. So we're using approx 3Mbps up and down right now. Not bad for about 600 people.

What are you guys on? and what was before and after tweaking?

That's the real deciding factor. Saying you had 3.1kbps then got 3.2kbps after tweaking is a little different from 1.4kbps to 3.2kbps.

Here's mine.

Kinda sucks because I know I can get better. I has an old 3Com cable modem and was getting about 3.3 mbit downloads, but now that InsightBB did a server upgrade, the modem was incompatible, so I had to go get one... A motorola 5100. That thing is killing me.

Any suggestions?

I get about 2.9 Mbps on my cable, and when I'm downloading from a fast server, I fill it in one!

Makes for fast work of downloading patches from Windows update. (That's about 350 KBps! Really cuts the time spent cursing Windows when downloading that 70 MB service pack. )
