Yeah, looks great. There should be plenty of fresh C2D builds around here with those precious cycles going to waste.

What about including team number? I know some people before used to have trouble finding the team number for F@H. The team number is in the welcome thread now, but maybe new people won't take the time to look there after reading the proposal.

Also, I think the post should be about the prejects that NEED help, with a link to all of the other ones.

One thing I might add is a link to the Welcome thread at the top of the DC forum. Something like:

For more information on the many DC projects available, check out the Welcome thread:..........
Yeah, link to the Welcome thread in there somewhere is a good idea.

Looks good Peter, i guess the mods will tell you if they feel it's too long.

I have looked at the comments and done some changes - although not all. Please accept that, because sometimes there have been conflictiong comments - I had some PMs too. Anyhow, this is the final version as I see it. I will PM the mods in about 12 hours (no time now - the weather is just too nice and the kids want to ski), so you have one more chance to propose changes.

Thanks for your support!

~~ TeAm AnandTech Distributed Computing needs YOU! Shameless ;) Recruiting Thread ~~

We would like to invite you to join us and use the idle CPU cycles of your computer to further various science experiments.

Team AnandTech is much more than sharing your spare CPU cycles for a "worthwhile" cause... it's about being a part of a "Family." The TeAm AnandTech is a very close knit group of people...from all backgrounds and societies... all working and playing together on various DC projects. We think the Distributed Computing Forum is one of the most friendly and helpful places on the AnandTech forums... ... add that to the great team spirit... and you've got a winning combination!

Look over the various projects. Here is the Distributed Computing welcome thread with a lot of info. Most projects are very easy to set up and run, don't need a permanent internet-connection while running and don't require 24 hour/day operation (but once addicted, you may just do that). They have almost no effect on your everyday PC(s) operations. If you have a question, please jump over to the Distributed Computing Forum and ask ... or just say hello! You'll be glad you did, and we will, too!

All the TeAms really need more TeAmmates... as many of the other teams in the world have grown, while we've slowed down... but YOU can help change the trend. In some projects TeAm Anandtech needs crunchers more than in others. These projects are:

DPAD: a race is going on. TeAm AnandTech has fallen from 2nd rank to third, and we need more members in the team to get our place back! Please look here: DPAD Distributed Particle Accelerator Design: Here you can use your own PC's idle time to simulate and design parts of a particle accelerator. Please put the characters [TA] before your name and you are in ...

Folding@home Several teams threaten TeAm AnandTechs position. Proteins are biology's workhorses - its "nanomachines." Before proteins can carry out these important functions, they fold themselves. The process of protein folding, in many ways, remains a mystery. When proteins do not fold correctly, there can be serious consequences, including many well known diseases (e.g. Alzheimers, Huntingdon's disease, Parkinson's disease, Cancer). Please join the TeAm #198!

Rosetta@home One of the main projects for the TeAm. Some TeAm members have been inspired to crunch this project to help a small girl to fight cancer and to do something - not only for her - but also for humanity. Please look here: Rosetta@home needs your help to determine the 3-dimensional shapes of proteins in research that may ultimately lead to finding cures for some major human diseases. Here is the Rosetta@home TeAm-page!

SETI@home: One of the main projects for TeAm Anandtech! The TeAm is in 18th place, but 4 teams are a threat. Production has been falling over the past months, as crunchers have moved to other projects. Some other teams are catching up! Please look here: SETI@home Search for extraterrestial intelligence: the project which started it all. The TeAm-page @ SETI@home is here

There are many projects around. Please take a look at some more in the Distributed Computing welcome thread and the Comprehensice BOINC project list.

Please join!

Edit #1: Since I am quite bad at spelling and grammer - please see some of my other posts <<Petrus shudders>>;) - please feel free to correct especially the spelling and grammer mistakes!

Edit #2 I have incorporated some of the changes Rattledagger proposes (see post further down).

I saw this on HOCP's front page a while back.

It went something like... "If you've found the articles here helpful, and informative, you can help us too"

I don't remember the rest, as I believe it was some years ago. Just food for thought. ;)

Wrong link to join the seti-team, it should be http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/team_display.php?teamid=30191
or maybe even easier, this 2nd. link http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/team_join_form.php?id=30191
If you uses this 2nd. link, should also change the Rosetta@home-link.

As for grammar and so on, I'm constantly mixing-up when/then so...

Still: "Most projects is very easy to set up and run" seems better...
And small typing-error under SETI: "Production has been falling over the past months, as crunchers have"

Other changes... maybe add to "don't require 24 hour/day operation"... and don't need permanent internet-connection while running or something similar...

Also an idea to explisitely mentioning something like: In most projects, even if can only run 1 hour/day, your computer will still do useful scientific work.

Can even use this to "sell" the thread: "Is your computer sitting idle for atleast 1 hour/day, or is for over 1 hour/day only used for light work like checking emails, browsing internet, writing in word, listening to music and so on, you can use these otherwise wasted cpu-resources to help tackle one or more scientific problems of your choise"...

1 hour/day is not enough for Folding@Home, since you won't meet the science-deadline (20x benchmark-time on 2.8GHz p4 + 2 days). Crunching Folding@Home only to meet the longer points-deadline is a waste of time, since result won't be used for science.
No idea for DPAD...
SETI@home can checkpoint nearly every second, so 1h/day is enough if not too slow computer.
Rosetta@home... how often does Rosetta checkpoint? If the checkpoint-intervall isn't too far appart, even slow computers should handle 1 hour/day...

Thanks Amaroque and Rattledagger.
Link changed.
I thought of going for a sell too, but then the post becomes longer. Lets see what others post ... and I'll think more about it.
Thanks for the info about the "crunching for one hour", Rattledaggar. :) I'll see if I can find a way to add it without the post becoming longer ...

I thought to pu the "if you have found this site ... etc into the headline ...

Have recieved the following answer from admin:
I have the previous recruitment thread saved on my drive. I will review your new text, see if there is anything from the previous version that could add to it, and when we have confirmed the final version, post it in all forums with a sticky.

It will take me until later today to get it together.

Mod

I have sent a "thank you" note.

Looks good. I'm sure some people would love to put their machines to work while they aren't gaming, since quite a few leave their rigs on 24/7.
lol:D

I would change "have almost no effect" to "little to no effect". Just my 2¢ ;)
Agreed.
