Yeah, looks great. There should be plenty of fresh C2D builds around here with those precious cycles going to waste.
Yeah, link to the Welcome thread in there somewhere is a good idea.Originally posted by: RaySun2Be
Looking great!
One thing I might add is a link to the Welcome thread at the top of the DC forum. Something like:
For more information on the many DC projects available, check out the Welcome thread:..........
~~ TeAm AnandTech Distributed Computing needs YOU! ShamelessRecruiting Thread ~~
We would like to invite you to join us and use the idle CPU cycles of your computer to further various science experiments.
Team AnandTech is much more than sharing your spare CPU cycles for a "worthwhile" cause... it's about being a part of a "Family." The TeAm AnandTech is a very close knit group of people...from all backgrounds and societies... all working and playing together on various DC projects. We think the Distributed Computing Forum is one of the most friendly and helpful places on the AnandTech forums... ... add that to the great team spirit... and you've got a winning combination!
Look over the various projects. Here is the Distributed Computing welcome thread with a lot of info. Most projects are very easy to set up and run, don't need a permanent internet-connection while running and don't require 24 hour/day operation (but once addicted, you may just do that). They have almost no effect on your everyday PC(s) operations. If you have a question, please jump over to the Distributed Computing Forum and ask ... or just say hello! You'll be glad you did, and we will, too!
All the TeAms really need more TeAmmates... as many of the other teams in the world have grown, while we've slowed down... but YOU can help change the trend. In some projects TeAm Anandtech needs crunchers more than in others. These projects are:
DPAD: a race is going on. TeAm AnandTech has fallen from 2nd rank to third, and we need more members in the team to get our place back! Please look here: DPAD Distributed Particle Accelerator Design: Here you can use your own PC's idle time to simulate and design parts of a particle accelerator. Please put the characters [TA] before your name and you are in ...
Folding@home Several teams threaten TeAm AnandTechs position. Proteins are biology's workhorses - its "nanomachines." Before proteins can carry out these important functions, they fold themselves. The process of protein folding, in many ways, remains a mystery. When proteins do not fold correctly, there can be serious consequences, including many well known diseases (e.g. Alzheimers, Huntingdon's disease, Parkinson's disease, Cancer). Please join the TeAm #198!
Rosetta@home One of the main projects for the TeAm. Some TeAm members have been inspired to crunch this project to help a small girl to fight cancer and to do something - not only for her - but also for humanity. Please look here: Rosetta@home needs your help to determine the 3-dimensional shapes of proteins in research that may ultimately lead to finding cures for some major human diseases. Here is the Rosetta@home TeAm-page!
SETI@home: One of the main projects for TeAm Anandtech! The TeAm is in 18th place, but 4 teams are a threat. Production has been falling over the past months, as crunchers have moved to other projects. Some other teams are catching up! Please look here: SETI@home Search for extraterrestial intelligence: the project which started it all. The TeAm-page @ SETI@home is here
There are many projects around. Please take a look at some more in the Distributed Computing welcome thread and the Comprehensice BOINC project list.
Please join!
I have the previous recruitment thread saved on my drive. I will review your new text, see if there is anything from the previous version that could add to it, and when we have confirmed the final version, post it in all forums with a sticky.
It will take me until later today to get it together.

Should we tell them about it getting addicting before or after they get addicted?
Looks good. I'm sure some people would love to put their machines to work while they aren't gaming, since quite a few leave their rigs on 24/7.
Agreed.Originally posted by: Amaroque
You asked for feedback on wording...

I would change "have almost no effect" to "little to no effect". Just my 2¢![]()

Also, I think the post should be about the prejects that NEED help, with a link to all of the other ones.
