Prepare polite letter informing supervisor of your departure. Sit down with supervisor and explain that you are resigning, effective in two weeks time. As much fun as it might be, don't bother going negative. If supervisor get pissy and fires you on the spot, don't submit letter and do collect unemployment. If supervisor stays professional, submit letter same day. Remain professional full two weeks, preparing for transition. No unemployment for you.

My personal recommendation

You should verbally communicate. Your manager may be concerned and may offer something to keep you. I've been asked to keep my job until I find another job. This worked out better for myself and my manager.

Once you are sure, give paperwork to HR and manager, write an email to the team and let people know you would do everything to make the transition easier.

I know the urge to want to burn bridges and shout at them everything you wanted to, but don't. You never know when you'll bump into them again. You have nothing to gain from telling your boss to screw off.

If they ask you for an exit interview, ask for the interview at least a month after you left so you can give a unemotional answer.

Never rely on someone to pass along information. Ultimately, HR will need to know as they do the paperwork, but your manager should be first to know. Put it in writing, bring it to him in a nice envelope and all that, tell him the reasons and chat with him if he's curious or wants to try to retain you. Let him know that you've sent a copy to HR as well, if he asks why just say it's so they can forward your W4 and junk like that, it'll make sense.
