Unfortunately Shipping and Receiving are considered to be low tech or knowledge type of jobs. I didn't read the whole thread so please forgive me but is there any room for advancement?

wow, $13 an hour? where do you live that you can even begin to think about buying a house at that wage?

Definitely not here in Santa Fe. Housing prices here are absolutely ridiculous..

FWIW, I was making over $18/hr when I lived in Portland. I took the first job I got when I came here.

We're looking at houses in the 120-160k range in Portland. Keep in mind that by the time we move back to Portland to buy a house, we'll be married, so income will be combined.

There's nothing glorious about 13$/hr though, you're right. Hence my dilemma.. lol. I'd like more.

Also FWIW, I'm being paid at the very bottom of the scale for S&R. The national average is 34k. I do more than just S&R, too.. that's another reason it doesn't sit well with me. I'm the only one in there, so I could easily be considered "Shipping and Receiving Lead" which would average 45k.

How old are you, and how the F do you live off of $26k / year ?

This thread was to ask for advice, not to tell my life story. Quite frankly, it doesn't matter.

Yes, I'm poor. I deal with it.

Shrug. I haven't had healthcare for 28 years. I'm not terribly worried about it.

I know that's short sighted, and I am trying to change that - like I said, I should be added onto her health insurance in the next 6mo.

The problem with not having health insurance is not that you're putting yourself at risk. You're putting all of your family and friends at risk. If you get sick and can't pay for it, they aren't going to let you die. Your mom will sell her house, your brother will go broke, your fiancee will take out loans, etc. etc. It is unfair to everyone you know.

Don't let these fuckers get you down. You're forgetting we all make 1mil a year and date models.

Btw, I don't think you answered my question. Is there room for advancement in the company?

Also, the 12% raise is pretty substantial for only being there for a year. Remember, you're still fresh meat. Keep working hard and doing the best you can and you should be rewarded.

Yeah, there is room for advancement. I mentioned that in my updateish post. My former boss is hoping that they will stick me in a Product Design position. Not that I know anything about designing jewelry, but there are a lot of supporting roles that require computer skills. I guess computer skills are hard to find here in general.
