Proper Process to updating Drivers on Nvidia Products?

Trying to guide a friend over the phone on how to do this and would like to know the exact process for Nvidia graphic drivers, specifically the Nvidia 8800GT. I fail in google.

Edit: I know ATI's process is dl the new driver, uninstall old drivers, restart, load new driver, restart, finished. Is it the same process?
 
I think nvidia drivers can now be simply installed without the existing nvidia drivers having to be removed. I know I read it somewhere and was looking for the source myself. Can someone confirm this?

I have personally updated my drivers twice without first uninstalling the old drivers. So far so good.
