Proper Jogging

When jogging / running, is one supposed to land each step only on the ball of their foot, not touching the back of the foot to the ground like with normal walking ?

that sounds like jumping...

I thought you're supposed to land on the ball, flatten the foot and let the heel touch, then transfer weight forward lifting off of the ball again.

My good christ where would you get such an idea? Land on the heel, roll off the ball. Try the way you thought it should be done and you'll feel pretty silly 🙂

Well not jumping, but it feels like it puts more tension on your leg muscles when you do it.

meh

That is only effective for short sprints and will really cause you problems if you try and run/jog any distance like that.

When I run sometimes I try to do it the way you describe, not letting the back of the foot hit the ground. The only reason I do this is because I like to hike in the summer, and this is a good way to train for those long uphill stretches. Otherwise I would not recommend it. This is generally on an inclined treadmill.

Running for a while like that is begging for shin splints... I know, I tried it. It is fun for a while, though. 😛
