What do I need to do to my new 250 gb HDD to get Windows XP Pro loaded onto it?
I'm having trouble getting a format and partitions to stick.
Thanks.

Install the drive and then boot from the XP CD and you can format and size partitions during the install. Check to make sure you bios identifies the full size of the drive before installing. That should be it.

And the answer is: RAM.
I offer that tidbit up just in case anybody else experiences a seemingly random series of blue screens after spending way too many hours plugging and unplugging and setting and resetting and installing and reinstalling and still holds out the hope that it'll work this time.
If it doesn't, go to crucial or kingston or wherever your favorite RAM comes from and run through the configurator and then go buy that RAM.
