Dear Americans with your built in "IN AMERIKA HERE, WE PLAY FOOTBALL" mentality, it is not your fault.

The reason soccer is not popular in the US is because of ONE reason. The USA is 120% all about money and profit, thats it.

Soccer will never be big here because they're hardly any commercials because rather than games like american football where the ball is only in play for 10 minutes the entire game, soccer is played in 2 continuous 45 minute halves with no timeouts.

Where are the greedy corporations going to make there money from??!?!?!?!

Thus soccer is rarely broadcasted on TV and since all popular sports are on TV, and unpopular ones are not, soccer is gay.

The end.

The rest of the world loves soccer for what it is. It isn't shoved down their throats like the NFL does. Go to a soccer game if you want to see fans with passion. Sometimes, too much passion when rival fans are beaten down and their jerseys burned, but thats part of the game.

I don't think I ever cared whether it was the biggest in the world. The superbowl is still the biggest sporting event for me.

i didn't mean to come off that way but lots of foreigners usually talk down on american sports and criticize it for silly things. we don't care what they watch, why do they give a shit what we watch. besides, our sports can't be that bad if basketball is prolly the fastest growing sport in the world.

Who cares? They're entitled to their opinion.

I know many Europeans who do watch American football.

Soccer is only for people who have vaginas and can't handle contact. It's quite boring and the 'injuries' some of the soccer players roll on the ground for are a joke.

you could say the same about football compared to rugby.

if you've played it, it's anything but boring, unless you suck.

true. besides, us primitive football fans aren't smart enough to put together a proper argument anyway :(

Hey, I love NFL football. I'll definitely be watching the game on Sunday and I think the Colts are going to win. I don't really care either way though since the Chargers aren't in it. :(

That said, I was in Spain in 2008 when they won the Euro Cup and I watched two of the semi-final matches along with the final there and it was amazing. EVERYONE was talking about it, the games were fun to watch, and it was every bit as entertaining as a good NFL game.

I can definitely appreciate both sports.

I could say the same thing about soccer when compared to rugby, but both rugby and football (and hockey) are full contact sports. Shit like soccer, basketball, and baseball bore me to tears. I'm not saying soccer players aren't athletic or anything... it's just a boring sport.

This is true. I'd be willing to bet that hardly anyone in this thread has played soccer (or any other sport for that matter). I actually play soccer, and have played football, and I will tell you that they are completely different sports.

I can tell you this, soccer hurts way worse. The only time I came out of a football game with an injury was when my hand got stuck between my chest pads and my tacklers helmet (luckily no broken bones, but holy hell that hurt). The only places you have exposed are shins and forearms.

In soccer, I've been hit/elbowed/kicked in the head, stomped on, and punched. I was even hit in the head with the ball from close range which left me blind in one eye for a day. With nothing but shin guards, you don't need a full blown tackle to get something hurt.

But again, both sports have concussions and broken bones. I will agree that the Lingerie Bowl > *.

Who the %$ll ever said the Super Bowl was the World's biggest game. This thread is all about FAIL.

Typically the World Cup is the BIGGEST as the World typically gravitates towards soccer.

OP, what were you thinking when you posted this fiction?

As much as I agree with the fact that soccer has become pussified, I beg to different about the contact. In soccer you're not wearing protection, and when contact does occur, it's pretty bad.

I think playing it is way more fun though. Everyone should at least play a sport and see how much fun it can be.

Forbes magazine, which uses gameday media, sponsor, ticketing and merchandise revenue to rank the world's most lucrative sporting events, hailed the Super Bowl this week as the top sports-event brand with a value of $420 million. The Summer Olympics ($230 million), World Cup ($120 million), the Euros ($110 million) and the World Series ($106 million) rounded out the top five.

I've had to play soccer in school a handful of times, and most of us weren't big fans. Kickball was always the most popular.

i played soccer for ~15 years. never had much a problem with contact. i did have issues with the cheapshits pulling on jerseys, flopping injuries, etc.

hence my utter disdain for "professional" soccer.
