From my friend Jenny...

Here's an article about an ordinary Australian "commoner" engaged to the crown prince of Denmark. Talk about meeting Prince Charming (and marrying him to boot)! It's so nice to see that fairytales can still come true. They look like a beautiful couple (and she's 31, too!). Who says you're an old maid if you don't marry by the time you're 30?? I say, hold out for Prince Charming. :) A girl's gotta have standards, right?

*wistful sigh*

Bah, the only thing 'special' here is that one is a 'noble' and one a 'commoner'... and the royal families are nothing but a meaningless titles these days. I would much rather admire somebody like Bill Gates, who actually earned their place in history (and actually do good for the world, most of these royals are nothing but pampered playboys).

The royals are pampered whiny buggers. They haven't earned the respect they are given. That Australian women is probably one of those "rich" folks, who say they are commoners. Anyways, I just hope she doesn't end up divorced and dead (princess Diana or that red headed girl Fergy??) There must be some sort of curse to the royal family, maybe something similar to the Kennedy curse...?

Constitutional monarchy still has some advantages in an advanced technological society. I know most of the people here are indoctrinated with the republican creed, and cannot even bear to think about these things, but nevertheless, a head of state unabased by dirty politics and election games is more useful than you can imagine - and the degree of civilization in Scandinavia is a living proof that the system works.

Well that's kind of vague... what exactly is this 'degree of civilization in Scandinavia' that is such proof?

No, i don't believe in a monarchy. I believe those who rule should be chosen by the people, based on the people's desires and needs, and chosen on the person's skills and experience, NOT BIRTHRIGHT.

So your standard is that the guy be born to privelage? If the Prince can reach down to date a "commoner", why can't you?
