Interesting the recent surveys supposedly showing tightening in the horse rate also show his approval and the generic ballot essentially unchanged.

Somebody is going to have to decide if the major surveys are lying when they show a big Biden margin or proof of Trump's strength when they show a smaller margin. The arguments are not consistent.

The oil embargo and energy crisis, the "depression" following the end of the war when all of a sudden so many military troops are released...and jobs are scarce, combined with the huge reduction in military spending, the huge interest jump...mortgage interest rates skyrocketed to 15, 18, 20% or more...

I was reading a story the other day about voters in urban/suburban NC and they were being asked about the "AMERICAN CITIES IN LIBERAL CHAOS BURNING TO THE GROUND AND MURDER SOCIALISTS RUNNING THE STREETS" approach Trump and the Republicans were going and the response was basically "Wut? Nothing is happening here and we don't believe it". Even one lady who said she was voting for Trump didn't find it credible (or him really).

Huge swaths of the nation are quiet including the vast majority of urban areas. Crime ranks far below other concerns like schooling, the economy, and coronavirus on basically every survey taken. There is danger in becoming too "online" like Trump has since the view of what's actually going on can get so distorted and not agree with much of the nation who isn't.

All true and it makes my point. We have a built in mechanism that produces a gag response and vomiting when a poisonous or noxious substance is ingested. All you have to do to make a child hate himself is to identify him as the source of disgust. In this way we learn to be disgusted and project it on the other. Fear is the anticipation of disgust. It can be evoked by association with things that are disgusting where the feeling one is revolting gets safely managed by projection. Snakes and spiders etc can give people the heebie-jeebies.

This is irrelevant and a defense mechanism seems to me to avoid dealing straight on with the fact that nobody in politics has ever lied like Trump. That is the worst article I've seen in a while. The polls are completely consistent with a steady biden 8-point lead, showing one error of +2 (10-point lead) and -2 (6-point lead). The 538 aggregate shows biden having one of his highest leads of the race as of thurs, and its contracted by half a point as of this morning.

Popular vote polling has been relatively stable with Biden at +8 - +9.5 fluctuating in that range for nearly 3 months now, with occasional brief strays a little outside that range.

There has been some narrowing in the swing state polling but that is actually because of a single poll which came out on 8/24. The pollster, Trafalgar Group, is a partisan pollster who released a series of swing state polls showing near ties in Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota and PA.

The problem with swing state polling is that there are fewer polls and the polls are usually lower quality. One outlier poll will produce what looks like a dramatic shift. In some swing states, we only see one new poll per week. Give it another week and the swing state average will likely climb again in Biden's favor.
