Proof: EOS-7D is coming!

According to everything I have seen on Canon, this is the long awaited successor to the 5D. It will not be a MKII, but the 7D.

You're correct probably but it's all speculation at this time till we see the real thing...the official press release, that is.😉

how was canon's numbering scheme in the film world? Because we have 5D.. then 1D... you'd wager 7D would be a step below the 5D?

there was the 1 series, the 3 series, then the elan (7 in japan) was the next step down. but the elan was about the same market as the xxD series has been. down from that was a consumer rebel and then an entry level rebel.

what is this? i'm guessing it's a poly carb, single control wheel 35 mm camera body. it might be 16 mp, but it'll be notably down market and less expensive to make than the 5D. intro price, i'd wager $1999.

i'd also guess that they're releasing something a bit more competitive with the D700 as well. eos 3D.

so, canon's holiday lineup will look like:

1000D
450D
40D
50D
7D
3D
1DIII
1DsIII

though this in particular is probably fake.

ok, that's what I had always originally thought, that a 7D would be a step down to compete more w/ the D300. And maybe a 3D to fill that other side of the gap

they'd be very imperfect competitors at best, having just about a similar price point in common. it's more, what do you want to do with your $1700 to $2000? birding or sports, D300. portraits, landscapes, and IQ in general, 7D.

I wonder if they're going to keep the 9-point AF from the 40D/50D for these new models.

Also, it looks like Zeiss is finally putting out EF mount lenses; announcement coming on the 15th. They will probably be MF CPU lenses like the ZF line (AF lenses will probably remain exclusive to KM/Alpha mount.

7D might have 9 point, 3D may have the pro stuff. the EOS 3 camera had the pro AF in it. with eye control.

Oh god eye-controlled-focus was the most finnicky gimmick I've ever used on a camera. I've got an Elan IIe with ECF. It's fun to mess around with, but it takes forever to calibrate properly. I'm looking forward to seeing exactly what the hell canon is coming out with this month. There's been speculation about "the next 5D" for way too long.

Yep, it's almost getting to the point of exhaustion. Even the 50D won't actually be in stores until sometime in October, even though it was announced with the D90 which is in stores now.

I have this inkling feeling we're all going to be disappointed w/ whatever canon releases. Lots of people have been waiting too long for a 5DmkII (although, I'd argue the only reason we need one now is competition has finally spanked canon around). I get the feeling from reading posts that ppl are expecting some huge leap, and that teaser ad doesn't help. I hope I'm proven wrong.

Hmmm...not good. CanonRumors is reporting from a good source that Canadian pricing of the 7D will be $2999 CAD.

With the exchange rate and model that Canon currently has for their US/Canada MSRPs, that means the US price should be about $2899? Maybe $2799?

I was expecting something much closer to the $2000 mark. Let's hope their source was wrong.

Well, if it's equivalent to the D700, then that price seems on point. If it's inferior, then a lower price would be warranted, but Canon's not going to sell something for $2000 that they can easily sell for $3000.

So it looks like full-frame is at $3000 for this generation brand-new. Oh well, hopefully in 3 years it will have come down in price to under $2k brand-new.

So what are prices on 5D bodies these days? Because that's still a plenty capable camera.

if they use the same ratio for price setting that they do on the XSi it's $2499 for the 7D.
