what exactly is a troll, besides a mythical creature that doesn't like sunlight and throws rocks in age of mythology? 🙂
 
I have no idea where calling someone a troll came from. I can understand when you call someone who rips you off a troll but calling someone who disagree's with others a troll is just out of my knowledge.
 
Actually, the term is derived from the concept of "trolling for fish", and originated on Usenet (and various previous incarnations of such networks, FIDO, etc). Basically a 'troll' was a poster who would toss out their bait, usually an inflammatory post or a post crafted outright to generate nothing but angry replies. Coincidentally, the term 'troll' and 'flame' were developed about the same time. 🙂
