First off someone who is in my office is getting a promotion he clearly doesnt deserve.

That said.

My supervisor asked a co-worker if he knew how to copy files, he stared blankly at him. Take that as a no, so he explains to him how to do it. Still no comprehension, so he shows him, in fact hes been showing him for the last 10 minutes! I could have done the complete job in less time....

Just venting

99% of the people her are actually very smart and very good at what they do. It's the 1% that tends to cause all the problems and tick people off.

I found this out while in the Army. To get promoted become the biggest f*ck up. Then become normal for awhile and they'll be impressed with your improvement and promote you. I never did it but saw it happen countless times.

Goodluck to you though, I know how irritating it must be.

I know what you mean, I know what you mean. As I am watching this event with my own eyes. Once again, another sad day in the office.

People that have no clue at all (bad): 1%
People that have a clue and know thier limitations (good): 60%
People that really know what they're doing and are quite good (good): 30%
People that have a clue but think they're gurus (very bad): 9%

An example of the last one is a guy when gave me a system to scrap parts out of and put in a 486, this system had a standard 430VX motherboard, with 4PCI 3 ISA, 2 16MB EDO SIMMs, "socket 7" written on the socket, a CPU with a retail Intel HSF that said "Pentium" on it, when I popped the chip up to see what speed it was, staggered PGA in full view, he asked the question: "that's a 486 right?" (same guy who I got my PPro from because he missed the fact that the case had a MB and CPU in it)

Alot of the systems that we sell contain computers that people here would drool over (dual P3s w/ U2W hardware, Plextor CD-rw drives, lots of RAM, etc) and they know how to build them right.

There are two types of promotions I can't stand. People being rewarded for being there for long periods of time, and people not being as bad as they used to be. Both have been brought up in this thread already.

You shouldn't be rewarded for time spent on the job. If you are no more productive now than you were five years ago, there's no reason for a promotion. Especially if multiple people are competing for the position. Most qualified should win regardless of anything else.

Same thing with competence. If I'm hired at the same time as someone else and they are completely incompetent at the time, there is no reason they should receive more money for being less incompetent.

Until your contributions to your employer warrant it, you should receive no further benefits.

Just curious does he have normal length hair, no earrings, and no tatoos?
You know why :)
