Promising New Fan?

these sound pretty sweet. i wonder how they compare to the panaflo L1A's i'm currently running. by their description these should be pretty quiet. hopefully they won't cost an arm and a leg. 🙂

I saw something about those earlier today, looks like they could be really promising. Just make sure that you don't use them to cool your hard drive rack 😛

Y.S. TECH Tip-Magnetic Driving Fan (T.M.D. FAN) relocates motor from traditional location of central hub to the 4 corners.

COOLING POWER
It reduces 75% of traditional motor hub area. This revolutionary breakthrough not only increases 30% of airflow and static pressure, but also brings air stream directly to the centralized heat source. As a result, T.M.D. FAN improves the efficiency of heat dissipation at least 15%.

POWER CONSUMPTION / TORQUE
Locating motor at 4 corners substantially expends the room for winding. Thus, lower power consumption can be easily attained. At the same time, the torque of motor becomes even much more powerful than ever.

ACOUSTIC NOISE / BALANCE
As known, the tips of fan blades are the main source of noise when a fan is rotating. The magnet of T.M.D. FAN surrounds along the tips of fan blades. This "tip-magnetic" design eliminates the major noise source of an impeller and provides the suspended balancing force when impeller is rotating

I'm not sure it would make much of a difference. Regular fans also use magnets, only in the center. So if you're not having any problems now you probably won't have any with these fans.

<< I gotta get one of these to review, /me sends an email to YS Tech >>

Hope they send you one to review. Let us know.

I emailed YS Tech last night and got some pics and specs from them, check the web news at OCModShop for some info and pics.

Here is a quote from the email the sent me on when they will be out...

<<
Here is the rough schedule for the dimensional development of the T.M.D. FAN:

Ø Now: 70x70x15mm is now available. It is targeted for Pentium 4 CPU cooler.

Ø April: 70x70x15mm T.M.D. FAN will be shipped out to variable locations over the world.

Ø May to June: 60x60x25mm, 80x80x25mm T.M. FAN will be released to the market. These two dimensions are targeted for AMD CPU cooler and case cooling.

These should be especially nice for cooling processors; that's what they're designed for I guess - no dead spot in the center of the heatsink.
