I have a VERY interesting card, but I'm not sure what it is. Either way, it's not working, any help?
Reasons it's a Ultra 66:
Paid $10 for a Ultra 66 card
Has "ULTRA 66" Printed on the side of it
Original BIOS said Ultra 66
BIOS screen doesn't appear under Fastrack 66 BIOS
Windows 2000 initially reconized it as a Ultra 66 (but as mentioned later, device wouldn't start)
Reasons it's a Fastrack 66:
Position of resistor (according to Tom's Hardware)
Device will start with Fasttrack 66 drivers in windows 2000
PTIFlash utility will only allow you to flash with Fastrack bios file (Ultra 66 file gives "wrong file type" error)
Here's what I did:
- Inserted Card w/ CD-ROM & ZIP drive attached
- Got Error "NO BIOS INSTALLED", continued boot
- Upon Entering Windows "Ultra 66" card and CD-ROM & ZIP drive were installed
- Windows ordered reboot
- reboot
- Got "NO BIOS INSTALLED" error again, contined boot
- In windows CD-ROM & Zip drive aren't present, "Ultra 66" card gives error "Device cannot start"
- Check Promise website, says error is due to no HDD's being attached
- Install latest Ultra 66 drivers from Promise Website
- Turned off computer
- Put HDD on "ultra 66", took of CD-ROM (spare hdd, not boot drive)
- Boot
- No errors from Card's BIOS, displays HDD as primary master
- In windows device cannot start - HDD not availiable
- Install Fasttrack Drivers, reboot
- Device can start, no errors, but HDD not availiable
- getting bored, not listing reboots anymore
- Tried to flash to newer Ultra 66 BIOS, Flash utility says wrong file (filename is correct)
- Tried to flash to newest Fasttrack BIOS, Flash utility accepts
- Card no longer displays BIOS screen on boot
- Device (Fastrack Drivers) seems to be working in windows (no errors), but HDD not availiable
