This is a cheap way to make large hard drives work with older computer, or a good way to get your CDRW on a different EIDE channel from any other devices in your computer. I have has good success with Team Excess, but the shipping charges always seemed on the high side.

Thanks...Good deal on the UDMA100 controllers. Heck, even a good deal on the UDMA66 controllers.
Truth be told, very few hard drives can push even the UDMA66 controller beyond its limits.

they rape u on S/h. Lowest for me is 10.50 which is for a small less then 1lb package...

I usually don't order from them unless I buy quite a few items. Unfortunately, their shipping goes up with each addition, but not too much. The initial shipping charge for one item is exhorbinant.

The warranty is only 90 days but this is still a good deal. Fry's is selling the ATA66 version for $30 and Newegg wants $36 for the ATA33 version.

the ATA66 is easily hackable into the fasttrak and the benchmarks show it as the same as the ATA100 version(although newer drives might have changed this...but probably not). Of course, it'd be a waste to link newer drives with this, but if you have an old machine with 2 slower drives you wanna speed up this would be a hot deal for $6 plus some soldering(and a cheap resistor from radio shack)

wow, $10.00 for the ata100 card, it can be modified to a fasttrack 100 easily as TekDemon said. ata/133 is overrated and not worth the extra cost as well. been running a modified-fasttrack 100 for over a year now, card is the epitimy of stableness :cool:

Actually it is NOT a waste to link newer drives to even the Ultra66, and certainly not the Ultra100.
The difference in performance between these cards and Ultra133 is negligable for most drives.

I had a hard time getting my IDE controller cards to work with WinXP.....Linux would do fine. :(

I got this card for $25... good deal for $10.

Still significantly cheaper than any other card I could find out there, even with shipping.

7 ultra100 cards (pulls) + shipping came out to $58 for me, and I live
across the country from Teamexcess. That $16 shipping is obviously
inflated, but a bit over $8 per card shipped is a fantastic price IMHO.

I think TekDemon was correct, suggesting that IDE RAID, hacking the controller to run the FastTrak RAID bios, is not as worthwhile as it used to be, before the current generation of fast IDE drives came out (with high density platters).

I did the RAID mod on the Promise ATA100 card a few weeks ago. You might expect a doubling in speed. A striped array with two 40G ATA100 7200 rpm drives benchmarked right around what I get from a stock 80G ATA100 7200rpm drive. I may use the raid card in a secondary system, with some older drives.

I agree that you won't "feel" much of a difference between the ATA66 100 and 133 setups. A very hot deal, with no rebate hassles. I paid $50, (less a Staples coupon), for my ATA100 card, then got a $50 rebate.

I hacked the ATA66 some time ago to a RAID. Haven't had one problem. The reason I did this is because I lost a HD with some files I needed. Now I have a hot-swappable backup drive.

Anyone know what the deal is here?

I placed an order for a few of the Ultra 100s on the 9th and got a confirmation email with a link for checking on my shipment. The link doesn't show a ship date yet and the Ultra 100s dont show on their website anymore.

Are they a legit outfit? should I be calling my CC company in a panic?

It seems like a good deal, until you see the added shipping cost. They also don't include the Ultra-ATA 66 cables.

I think that I'd rather buy this card instead. For $9 more, you'll get an Ultra ATA 100 card with the cable.

From what I've read, there's little difference in performance between 66, 100 and 133. Even 7200 rpm drives can't pump out data fast enough to come close to those speeds. You'd prolly need a 10-15k rpm drive to come close to ATA66 speeds. I don't think those are available in IDE, are they?

As far as RAID goes, yeah, I doubt you're going to get any speed advantage from a RAID setup with these cards, but you do get the redundancy/swappable benefit in case you have a failure.

Got my 7 ultra100 cards today. I bought the pulls for $6 each. Professionally
packed and shipped.

One note: The cards all have FastTrak100 silkscreened on the circuit board
AND the stickers on the BIOS chips say FastTrak100 v2.00 (something
like that). Could these actually
be FastTrack 100 cards instead of Ultra100 cards? I didn't have time to plug
one in this morning to check...

Nice bonus if they are...
